I think my saurkraut and gingered carrots, both fermented naturally, have gone alcoholic in my fridge. They had a different sort of smell and taste to them today. I've had them in their for a few months since they were opened. Is this possible?
LOL - I flushed them. (Ooh - bet they would have been good in the compost now that I think of it. Darn!) Anyway, they are for dd so.... I prefer the spicy kimchee.
Pretty sure my LF cabbage has become alcohol. I seriously felt drunk when I ate it the other day - I was warm all over and kind of numb and thankfully all the kids were asleep so I could just mellow out - I didn't throw it out cuz I figure it's probably still good for me in small quantities - Wild thing is I'm a recovering alcoholic and it didn't make me fall off the wagon!! And, it's like pulling teeth to get me to eat it cuz it's really nasty - I just know the benefits of it. Mine hasn't even been in the fridge more than a month.

How can we know for sure if a fermented food has gone alcoholic? I'm concerned about alcohol content because I'm pregnant...

With mine, I could smell it as soon as I opened it. It smelled totally different than normal. A little taste and it tasted a bit different too.
