I know that there is a pretty clear split down the middle regarding the use of the Doppler to check for a fetal heartbeat, but I'm seriously considering renting one for just a month or two.

I'm 11 weeks and stuck on bedrest right now because I had some spotting early this week, and since I've had two miscarriages in the last year, the doctor wants me to "be still" for a while.

As if bed rest weren't challenging enough for an active mom with two kids (13 & 9), I'm finding it really difficult to lay here, day in and day out, not knowing if the pregnancy is still progressing the way we want it to. The doctor was able to detect a heartbeat at 9 weeks, but I won't go back in until after the beginning of December...

In the meantime, I would really like some reassurance that Baby is ok and doing fine...and I think being able to check occasionally for the fetal heartbeat will do that. I don't want to keep it throughout the pregnancy because I feel like once I'm into my 2nd trimester and can feel the baby moving and everything, I'll feel more confident that everything is ok.

Anyone else here planning on using a monitor at home? Any thoughts?

I rented one last time and found it very easy to use. I don't feel the need for it this time around, but it was reassuring last time. I'd say if it will ease your mind, it's probably a good idea. Definitely send it back once you no longer feel you need it, though. We didn't end up sending ours until DD was 5 months old because we just kept forgetting! That was a silly waste of money.

I've never rented one but I'm tempted to. I can see how it can be very reassuring to hear that little heart beating. Where do you rent them? I'm sorry that you are on bed rest right now. I hope you are up on your feet soon!

I rented one last time as well. We had just had a miscarriage (with no cramping, bleeding or anything) and I was very nervous the first trimester. We would listen maybe once a week for a few seconds and it was very reassuring! We rented ours from http://www.heartones.com/ for maybe 2 months.

Thanks ladies.

I have just gone in and placed my order through a company called FetalSure...I should get the Dopller in a day or so. I think it will really make me feel better.
