Has anyone had it recommended to them to get a fetal echocardiogram because they are over 35 (AMA) to check for Downs related heart anomalies. We had our 20w u/s this week, mainly to check placenta issues to clear my mind for a vbac and as far as my MW could tell, the report did not note anything wrong. And the recommendation seemed to be solely related to the fact that I will be 35 at delivery. My MW said this was a new recommendation to her.

I was just curious if others were getting this recommendation or if I should just suspect a specialists office of ordering a test because they *can* (and presumably my insurance would pay for it). :

i have not had this specifically suggested. then again i am only 24 yrs old. but i was under the impression that the 20wk ultrasound with a specialist (at least I went to a specialist to rule out other stuff) automatically checked the babys heart. at least he did in that u/s
