X-Posted Fever in Newborn - WWYD?

My poor guy has a fever & he'll be just 3 weeks tomorrow . I took his temp & it was 100 degrees. I called the Dr. & she said to nurse a lot, give him probiotics & to make sure that I'm drinking loads of water & vitamin c AND that if it gets any higher (101 or above) that we might need to go to the hospital .

I've been so careful not to let strangers near him, just my mom, x-partner & the girls. I bet I'm not making antibodies for whatever x-partner might catch since I see him maybe twice a week & never closer than a couple of feet...hmmmm....

Anyone else's baby have a fever this young? What did you do? Dd2 had a really high one at 6 wks, like 104, I can't believe I didn't take her to the ER!

Any links or advice?

Our youngest got a fever when she was 10 days old. It was 101 and we were sent to the hospital. She was tested for everything under the sun. Had spinal tap, chest x-rays, mucous tested. And she was admitted for 2 days while her tests cultured and she was given a course of antibiotics. She wound up just having the flu, but in babies so young (under 6 wks) they won't take any chances.

I was really upset because I had a homebirth with her, did everything I could to be healthy and have her be healthy and she wound up hospitalized at 10 days old. It felt very wrong to have her hooked up to machines and given antibiotics, but if it did turn out to be menengitis, it's a good thing we took her in. Thank God it wasn't, but you never know. Better to be safe than sorry sometimes.

Good luck! I hope your baby is ok and doesn't need hospitalization.

How interesting... I've always been told by american and swedish doctors that normal temperature in babies is 97 - 100.4 F degrees (36-38 C)

I think i'd watch behavior more at this point ( not lethargic, nursing well, alert, etc).. were told to take in for 40C / 104F if more than 3 days or at any time they get lethargic & fever doesn't respond to tylenol. (nak btw).

when my littles get fevers i push liquids (boob or water, age appropriate) & keep them lightly dressed, if any clothes.
