We had a "for sure" name, then we didn't. Shocking. We are having our 3rd girl and need some final help with a name. Our two girls now have names that end in "y" but are not foofoo names and both shorten to really strong sturdy short names as well. We are admitted name shorteners, lol. DH is drawn to more "y" ending names, I am open. We have the following short list.....any opinions?

-Emerson (my choice w/DD2 but DH didn't like it then. He does now.)
-Ellison (Ellis for short probably)
-Hadley (based on nothing....funny little girl at story time with this name)
-Hayden
-Brinley (I worked with a Brinley at my last job...granted he was a 60 yr old British male, not a little girl, but I still love the name)
-Presley
-Emery

All sound equally good with our last name, and all sound crappy with the middle name but it's a family name and we are okay with that, lol.

Veto-ed since this morning were Harper (DH's pick...SIL veto-ed noting "too Republican") and Kennedy (my pick, but FIL veto-ed noting "too left-wing)...LOL....I have a politically opinioned, and usually misguided, family.

What's your fave?

I wanted Berkley, but if Kennedy wouldn't fly imagine Berkley. If I ever have twin girls they will be Berkley and Kennedy, just to piss off my FIL. Or maybe Clinton and Kennedy.

I say go with Emerson or Hadley!
My friend in NOLA has a sweet little girl named Hadley and its not one you hear too much.
Emerson is one that lends itself to nicknames and is quite lovely.

I like Emerson, Ellison (Ellis is so cute!), and Emery the best.

Sorry, I don't like any of them. They sound more like streets or a law firm than names for a child.

Emerson, Ellison and Hadley are way too lastname (that whole WASP naming trend).

Hayden falls into the dreaded Jayden/Aidan/Kaden camp, super trendy.

Brinley, again sounds like a last name or a preppie from the 80's.

Presley - kid will be doomed to a lifetime of explaining that yes she was, or no she wasn't named after Elvis

Emery - again, a last name. Also reminiscent of the scratchy board to file fingernails.

I personally think the last 3 replies are super rude. I don't think she was asking if you hated them, but asking which we liked best. Clearly meaning she likes them and intends to use at least 1 of them, so saying they are all terrible is way out of line. Since she wasn't asking for them to be vetoed all together I think your posts are unwelcome, JMHO.

Please mama, ignore them!!

I gotta say, when I saw a name thread, I said to myself "I betcha zinemama posted in here telling everyone in no uncertain terms why all those names suck" because the only time I see her posts in this DDC are when she's giving (negative) opinions on names. I see I was right. Man, you'd HATE my names.

Not for nothing, but when any kid born in 2010 goes to school with the name Presley, I don't think too many kids are going to associate it with Elvis.

I like Ellison the best. I like it shortened to Ellis.

Hey, now. I have nice things to say about plenty of names. See here:

http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?t=1220138

I like Ellison. I love that it can have lots of nick names... Ellis, Elli, Elle etc...

I remember there was another name thread and I really liked the name you went with that time too. I remember you requested help with the first/ second name combo... something about naming the baby after an aunt etc... Or maybe it wasn't you?!

I like the Brin component of Brinley A LOT. Personally, I'd go with "Brinn" or "Bryn" and just call her Brinley when she's a young child. Brinley is very pretty, but seems like more of a nickname to me. Bryn/Brynn, on the other hand, is a very old Welsch name. Lovely!

Another name that occurred to me as I read your list was Briony/Bryony. Also an old name.

Thanks for the feedback! I, personally, refrain from posting my opinion on name threads in which the thread starter posts a final list and I don't care for any. Mainly because I don't expect them to scrap their final list since we have different name tastes, lol. To each their own I guess.

Shannon, I did have the Ellison thread awhile back as I was sold on that. We were pairing with a couple middle name options. Babe's middle names will be Amanda after my SIL who probably will never have kids and is a huge part of our kids' lives.

I think I am crossing off Hayden (personally I think of the old sitcom Coach) and Presley. Emery is one of my least faves I think.

Which knocks me down to Emerson, Ellison, Hadley and Brinley. We may just sit on those until we hit the hospital and Have to decide.

We both wished we liked 'Daisy' more...it was DHs grandma, but also the name of some bleached out chick w/ a huge fake boob job on a reality show we saw once, and it ruined it forever, lol.
