I've been lurking here long enough...

I'll try to keep this to the Cliff's Notes version.

My DH and I started TTC about 2 and a half years ago. During our very first 2WW I got a phone call from my doctor letting me know that I had cancer. Boy was that a stressful wait. Thankfully, we weren't PG and I was able to proceed with my treatment that included a complete thyroidectomy.

I have also been diagnosed with PCOS.

6 months after my cancer treatment I met with my specialist and asked about TTC. He said that officially he had to tell me to wait a year for any residual radiation to leave my system. Unofficially he pointed me to some articles that showed that 6 months was plenty of time to have waited. Why the rush? Because with the dual diagnosis of PCOS and no thyroid every doctor I saw said that we would have a very hard time conceiving and needed to get to it the very first day that it was deemed "safe".

So we started trying. Only problem was that my periods were not cooperating. After my thyroidectomy AF became very regular. Every 29 days. I always ovulated on CD15. This was confirmed by charting, OPK, blood work. The problem, I was generally bleeding for 15-25 days out of the 29. So even though I was ovulating, I still had AF!!! I went to many doctors who basically had no idea what was going on. I also tried a homeopathic approach which seemed to help but did not fix the problem.

DH and I finally made the decision to see a specialist who was going to cost a fortune and my insurance would not cover. Despite being a fertility problem, the long AF was also a medical issue so it was an issue for insurance to deal with if I stayed in network.

Our fertility doc appt was on CD10. We were all set to go. But then on CD7 AF stopped! I had a normal period. So we decided to postpone the appt for a month so we could have some more data points. The next month I also had a normal period!!! After 2+ years of horrible, heavy, never-ending AF my body has suddenly decided to cooperate.

So we are TTC the old-fashioned way for a couple more months hoping that things will happen naturally. It is still a pretty stressful situation. I've got the normal 2WW issues. Then period comes and the real worry starts. Will I stop bleeding in a regular length of time? I much prefer just worrying if I might be PG or not. At least one is a normal activitiy.

So maybe I didn't quite keep this short.

Just wanted to introduce myself.
I'm currently in 2WW.

Pumpkin!! Very exciting that you are finally on your TTC journey! After all your problems, hope your stay here is short and sweet.

You should come over and join the "One Thread." It's a thread that's re-started every Sunday and keeps track of all the viewers who are TTC, who are waiting to TTC, and who were TTC and are recently pregnant.

I joined about 6 weeks ago - after 18 months of TTC, a m/c and a few months of lurking. It has been EXTREMELY helpful and the women are just a wealth of information and very supportive.

If you join before Sunday, you should be on the new list for next week (the first post on the new thread lists everyone and where they are at - CD, DPO or 2ww, recent m/c, and recent pregnancies).

Again, welcome!!
