What did you offer as first foods to your babies? I read an article in this months (or maybe last months) Mothering magazine about it and it really opened my mind to some different options. I've been looking on-line for some ideas, but all I can find are more conventional answers, i.e. refined, pre-packaged baby cereals. So what are your ideas and does anyone know of any useful web-sites? Thank you! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

I like <a href="http://babyledweaning.blogware.com/" target="_blank">this blog</a>. There's also a baby-led weaning thread on this forum someplace...

We did avocado first with dd.<br><br>
Soft chunks of fruits or veggies work well. We'll probably do avocado or banana or sweet potato this time around.<br><br>

DD's first food was a pea that she grabbed off my plate - followed by some more of the same <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngtongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick Out Tongue">. Then...sweet potatoes? I think it was sweet potatoes...maybe bananas, though...I have no memory. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngtongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick Out Tongue"><br><br>
Chicken was an early one for us, as well...avocados...most of the usual suspects...oh, berries, but I know some people are afraid of allergies.

Bone broth, then zucchini (hated), then beets (LOVES). Still mostly EBF though... we're just playing with food occasionally for now.

I would start with sweet potato. I know that banana is the classic first food but dd is allergic (she breaks out in hives and wails <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad">) My dd also seems to be allergic to avocado <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"> I love banana and avocado as first foods but they are more allergenic then people realize.<br><br>

Banana was ds' first. Then we did avacado, sweet potatoe, yam, carrots, turkey/chicken, broccoli, apples/pears (not in order). He liked to suck the juice out of our apples really early. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>
Have fun!

Hi Therese's Mommy i just wanted to let you know (if you don't already) to be careful with latex as people with banana and avocado allergies often have/develop latex allergies.<br><br>
I developed an allergy to avocado after years of eating them without a problem. I have an anaphylactic response, so I carry benedryl everywhere I go.
