I just completed my first knitting project, a washcloth. I figured out how to bind it off but I still have one loop left on the needle and I'm not sure what I do with it. Do I pull the loose end of yarn through it, tie it off, what? Thanks!

ETA: pic It's made of kitchen cotton on a #5 needle. I started with a #6 on the first one that I ripped out. I seem to keep a more consistent tension with the smaller needle and I prefer the tighter look. I was able to keep my tension just right with the #5, not too tight but not overly loose.

Thanks for the encouragement! I don't know if this counts as the first project-- the first completed maybe. I ripped this out and started over twice and the second time I changed sizes of needles. It's the same front and back, so that's the garter stitch right? I just learned purling today so I'll go and make another washcloth this weekend.

Oh come on! Do I have to wait until morning to finish this thing?

Thanks! I did it.

I am recharging my camera battery and will post a photo later today. I am confused about what it looks like-- it doesn't look like knitting in some of the other photos I have seen on-line. Maybe I did something wrong but at least it's the same all the way through.

Maybe it's garter stitch? Did you do knit the same way on the front & back of the cloth? If so that's garter stitch. If you purled across the back & knitted the front that would make stockinette stitch, which is what you see most often in knitted products.

Can't wait to see pics -- isn't the 1st project so exciting?

That looks great for a first project! With my first few swatches, I bound off waaaay to tight so the bound-off edge was a few inches shorter than the rest .

It looks great! I tend to think garter titch looks better on smaller needles too although the size 6's work best for me - I knit too tightly for 5's.

It looks really good! Well done! Dh and I are going to an all-day concert today (McDowell Mtn. Music Festival at Westworld, specifically, since you're in AZ), and I'm bringing some Sugar n Cream cotton to work on washcloths.
