DD has her first school dance this evening. Her school is 6th-8th grade. I am sure the dance is chaperoned but I was able to leave school dances to get high and make out with boys in the 8th grade. My daughter is only 11 so I would hope this doesn't even occur to her.

Anyway I was just wondering if I should walk her into the building. (of course this would embarrass her to no end especially since I would have to drag the lil girls with me.) Or should I just drop her off in front of the building and be satisfied watching her walk in?

Also should I give her my cell phone? DH will be flying in this evening so I kind of need it in case anything happens with that, but his flight doesn't even leave until after the dance is over. But you never know, something could happen. I am also worried about the phone getting lost. The dance is at the school so it is not like they don't have phones in case something happens. I am sure I sound like a paranoid mamma, but this is her first school dance.

Opinions, experiences welcome. Thanks!!

Aww, what a fun time for her! My first thought is to *make sure* it's supervised. I mean, with kids this age I am pretty sure it would be, but I try not to assume too much these days. Call her teacher or the principal to see what the arrangements are regarding supervision. I think I'd be comfortable dropping her off and seeing her walk into the building safely. Of course, my Dd would have no problem with me walking her in or even staying there for that matter. I think that giving her the cell phone to use for the evening is a really great idea. She can feel secure and so can you. You might want to go over how important it is to be careful with cell phone... not to put it down somewhere, and no to let other people use it. I hope she has fun

Well I do know it is supervised becasue they sent a note home asking for volenteers a few weeks ago. I was going to volenteer myself but dh didn't get in until after the dance was over, so that left no one to watch the other 2 girls.
