I just learned that my tanks are too small for my fish. (I have 2 - 1 gallon tanks) So I was thinking of getting a much bigger one, but I'd like to put the two little guys together.
Bettas are tropical/warm water, goldfish are coolwater. Plus goldfish need a huge tank, and bettas dont usually like too big (5-10 gallons is great for them).
You should be able to put the betta and goldfish together without an issue unless it's a fancy tailed goldfish and you have a male betta. Bettas are usually kept by themselves because the males are aggressive towards each other and often, they will mistaken other goldfish with a fancy flowing tail for another male betta.
Although it's true that bettas are from warm climates, many bettas are kept at room temperature in small bowls without a heater, so they are adaptable. Since most goldfish can live in 65 to 75 degrees F water, if you are using a heater, I would set your tank to 75 degrees so the betta is happier.
Depending on what type of goldfish you have, it can get very big, so you may want to look into that before deciding the size of your tank. The betta should be fine in a larger tank -- they were originally found in rice patties in Thailand. I have a betta in my 65 gallon tank.
I used to breed Bettas. I have only one right now but I have had Bettas with goldfish before. Both are very hardy breeds. Bettas don't care if there temperature is tropical or not and neither do goldfish. You Betta may actually perk up with a bit of company.
Goldies are messy fish and can get quite large. THey really do best with no less than 25 gallons per fish.... As for mixing them with a betta, its really up to the betta! Be prepared to move him if it doesnt work, and youll know if it doesnt....
How can I tell the sex of my betta? (my dd named her daisy and said she's a girl, but I have no idea)
I think my goldfish is a Calico goldfish. Is that a fancy tail one? He (just a guess, ds named him Sargent Moody) doesnt have a big fancy tail, but it has white on the end. I'll have to take a pic for you guys.

Unless you specifically bought a female betta, it is a male
