I haven't been on here in awhile. We cd'd our 4th baby (now 23 months) from newborn until 15 months. We've had major problems since with bleeding rashes. The cliff notes version: it's not yeast, he's been to the pedi. I stripped the diapers, no difference. We would switch to Pampers and he would be fine. Everytime we switched back to cloth, within a day his bottom was bleeding again. We have a front load machine and I use Allen's. I ended up buying fleece and putting a strip on top of the diaper and it was helpful, but where the fleece shifted, it would get irritated and bleed. At 19 months, I gave up and we've been in sposies. We've been using Earth's Best, but I can only buy them locally up to size 5 and he needs a 6. I can order online but prefer not to do that. I bought more Pampers last night and the fragrance is killing me. Yuck! I'm fortunate enough to have a cloth diaper store in my town and the lady that runs it has been very helpful. I think I'd like to give it one more try.

My little guy is 30 pounds. He's a chunk! He'll be 2 next month. He's not showing any signs of readiness for potty learning yet. He is a heavy wetter. Our previous system was prefold with Thirsties or Bummis Snap covers.

I'm looking at pocket diapers, would prefer hook and loop. I really like the look of the BG 3.0, but they only go to 35 lbs. The lady here in town said for pockets, she would recommend the Happy Heiny one size pocket. I'm not sold on it.

I thought about fitteds, specifically the Thirsties fitted. But some of the reviews say they are not terribly absorbent and not great for heavy wetter's and there can be issues with the aplix.

We have the brown edge prefolds from Cloth-eze. The lady here said I could use a Cottonbabies Insert Sock that will turn a prefold essentially into a pocket, still using a cover. It's suedecloth and supposed to have the stay dry feeling.

For either of the last two options, I'd need new covers. Our covers are all mediums, up to 25 lbs. I'm really scared to spend more money if it doesn't work. But I so desperately don't want to use sposies anymore. Not at the expense of my son's skin though.

For wipes, we've always just used water. Someone told me that just water can be irritating as well. Any ideas what to use with the wipes?

If anyone has thoughts on these ideas or suggestions for something I haven't mentioned, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

If you can sew a straight line, you can easily make one of those "socks" yourself. Just buy no-pill fleece at Joann's or whatever and cut it the length of the prefold (for trifolding) plus wide enough to wrap it around and sew two sides together. Just a loop the size of your prefold.

Sometimes you can get covers/diapers used here or diaperswappers. I like the Thirsties covers or fitteds, but their aio might be a good option. All go up to 40 lbs. With the aio we are ok during the day as is, but at night time or nap time add an extra microfiber or hemp insert. Has worked well for us!

I hope you find something that works well!

What is your normal washing routine? Maybe we can give you some help there, too...

Our wash routine:

We have a front load machine and I use Allen's.

I put the diapers in and do a cold rinse, no detergent.
I run the sanitary cycle which is extra hot with 1/4 the recommended detergent (you're supposed to cut Allen's in half for a front load, then I cut that in half since it's diapers).
I run an extra rinse on warm.

So you've used the Thirsties fitteds? How would you say they are for absorbency? Also, is poo easy to get off something like that? He still doesn't have the kind of poo that just rolls off the diaper. I was used to dunking a prefold (no sprayer and won't be buying one) but can you dunk a fitted the same way? Thanks!

I dunk my fitteds if I have to...ds's poop sometimes rolls, sometimes doesn't...I am going to get a sprayer, but have had no real problems with dunking the fitteds.

I say go with the happy heiny's. They are awesome. I've used the BG 3.0 I have one but I won't be buying more. The laundry tabs don't stay closed and the velcro tabs can scratch if you have a fat bellied child. The happy heiny's have a fleece inner and the BG just has a soft material that doesn't do as good of job of wicking the wetness away. I'm a snap lover but I don't mind the happy heiny's velcro. Plus the happy heiny's are much roomier.
Have you tried hemp? I find that hemp causes way less redness especially if it's something like a fleece topped hemp doubler. Hemp has antibacterial properties and it combats diaper rash. Also bluehousesoaps.com has a happy bum spray that is very moisturizing and smells lovely.
I second trying to make the insert sock but out of fleece or silk. I find these wick better than suedecloth.
Again though I would go with the happy heiny's. If they don't work for you they have a high resale value.
If he's 30lbs you could just go with an extra large happy heiny's pocket which is cheaper than the one size and stuff it with your prefolds you already have. Happy Heiny's also has a side snapping pocket trainer that works like a stuffable pullup. These apparently can go all night with no leaks. I've never tried them but they look great and might do double duty for when he does show an inkling for potty training

Ah, and I think the Thirsties fitteds have microfiber.

I kind of like the idea of a fitted with a cover since summer is coming and he could go coverless.

Part of me just wants to order toddler prefolds and Thirsties covers and be done with it. Except I guess that puts us right back where we started. Sigh.

i diaper a big girl....27 mos, 35 lbs, 35" - my opinions...

hh leak!!
lg thirsties covers droop and sag no matter how tight u fasten them

we have the same rash/washing issue. boiling about once a month is the only thing that works. the dipes that fit the best, hold the pee and poo and stay on, dont droop (for me)

bummis covers size large - pfs and hemp doublers
lg fuzzi bunz - mf and hemp stuffing

gl!!
