Fitteds or AIOs for newborn?

If you were going to CD a newborn for the first time, and were totally folding-impaired so pfs were out of the question... would you go with fitteds and wool or covers, -or- AIOs?? I'm wondering if the PUL will be harsh on his/her skin, but I'm not sure I'll want to mess with fitteds and covers, or will like wool for a newborn. (I have TONS of adorable outfits I've kept that I'll want to use...)

I love fitteds on newborns, but pocket diapers after they reach like 10 - 12 lbs.
I've used Very Baby XS AIOs on my dd when she was born. The fit was amazing.....no bulky butt or anything. Other course I sold them off last year because I didn't think we'd be pregnant again for a few years and I didn't want clutter....go figure!
We did very well with fitteds like kissaluvs 0s and nannipoos. We ended up with a supersoaker, so most aios just don't work for her. . . Some of the ones we tried leaked through as soon as she peed!
I would say a tried and true system of fitteds, whether you go with pul or wool for covers maybe try some of each?

You don't know what kind of baby you are going to have (heavy wetter, temperment, sensitive skin etc) so all of one thing might not work

My dd was a super heavy wetter so after the first 2 weeks my vb didn't have enough absorbtion not to mention she seems to have a pul and fleece sensitivity and does much better with wool
I like fitteds and covers because AIOs always leaked the bf poops where if I had a cover and a dipe it held it all in.
I have a 2 week old right now and have used pockets, fitteds, and AIOs. She must be a supersoaker, but the only thing that really holds for her is fitteds and covers. Everything else she soaks through. The PUL doesn't wick around seams or anything, just wicks all over. The same PUL works great on her covers, so it is not the PUL. The pockets just seem huge on her.

Based on my experience so far, I would go fitteds with covers as your primary diaper and then maybe add a few pockets and AIOs just to see how you like them.

For a newborn I'd do fitteds and cover's over AIO's. Les likely to get leaks this way
It does add another step but you don't always have to use a cover. I love the x small mother-ease sandy's for newborns and they have organic ones now

In my experience, AIO's worked fine for the first few weeks when the baby is pooping so often (and thus, smaller volume each time). BUT, at about one month old when they really start cutting back on frequency, the volume goes up and leaks happen a lot with AIO's (or pockets). For this reason, I suggest fitteds with a separate cover (we like the simple Dappi pull-ons or Bummis whisper pants since they don't add any bulk and will still work great under those cute outfits). I do like having a handful of AIO's though, mainly for all those doctor visits!
I'd say go for fitteds and covers. Just the thought of a baby going through SO many diapers would turn me off to the pockets and AIOs. If you don't mind the expense, why not grab a few AIOs or pockets though.
I think I am in the minority here.
I used both fitteds and AIOs, and I definitely preferred the AIOs. There was just too much bulk with fitteds and wool for my personal preference. We used VB AIOs and loved them - never had any leaks, and they are super easy to use.

VB meaning Very Baby?

Struggling to decide between starting off with Bum Genius! or a decent newborn AIO....

I love fitteds for the first few weeks, but after that I find I'm using our pockets more and passing up the fitteds...

I like fitted for a newborn they tend to fit better. With this baby I am using prefolds even with a newborn. They are economical and the folding is super simple. I wouldn't let that chase you off prefolds. I bought newborn prefolds and she wore those for about 4 months and still does occasionally (she's 6 months now). I will use the newborn size as a extra liner when she gets older for over night. Congratulations on your baby and good luck
I would use fitted and covers as it is less likely you will be fighting with leaks! I use prefolds and covers. I just trifold so it does not take much folding and you can fold it when it comes out of the wash so no folding in the actual diaper change. We were using AIO's the first couple of weeks but had leaking so switched and are much happier. DS is now 4 months old and I am very happy with our system.
fitteds for sure
i used pfs, but what I liked was having the choice of covers; every AIO he wore wicked or leaked

I used Kissaluvs Fitted and Stacinator covers when my daughter was a newborn and loved them! Now we use pockets exclusively. I am not a fan of AIOs. I think they take FOREVER to dry!
Thanks everyone! It sounds like I should go with mainly fitteds, with some pockets and/or AIOs thrown in also. Now to get started on that stash...
