Hi!

I saw a lot of posts about flax seed oil, but I didn't see an answer to this particular question. For those of you that feed your babies flax seed oil, how much do you give? I started DD on it this past week, about 1/4 tsp per day added to her fruit or veggies. Does that sound about right? I have the book Super Baby Food and it discusses giving flax seed oil, but it never says how much.

TIA!

Here is what my vegan book says: It is a balance of omega-threes (flax seed oil) and omega-sixes (seasme seeds, sunflower seeds, corn oil) that is important. Of coruse, no one is sure what the right balance is; I think 3 to 1 is the current default. We get enough omega-sixes without even trying. The books suggests 2-3 teaspoons of flax seed oil for an adult (i.e. prgnant women should have 3 teaspoons, which equals 1 tablespoon). So I guess you could do a weight thing - if the average adult is 150 pounds and should have 2 tablespoons and your child is 30 pounds s/he should have X amount (you do the math - I'm too lazy).

I have a similar question about ground flaxseed. We switched to ground (grund them ourselves and eat immediately) because of stuff I read on here about flaxseed oil going bad (and thus degraded nutritionally and slightly toxic) before you even get it home. But I have no idea how much to eat a day. Right now I do 2-3 tablespoons of ground flaxseeds daily.

Help on this issue would be great!
