I have never heard anything about flax oil being unsafe during pregnancy. I don't take flax oil, but I sprinkle flax meal in my smoothies and cereal.
I also take about 2000 mg of a mixed oil (capsules) daily (borage oil, pumpkin seed oil, evening primrose, etc). I occassionally take in some hemp oil, and add hemp seeds to salads and stirfries. I am going to start adding in a DHA supplement probably this week~ since DHA is so beneficial for the developing babies brain and nervous system.
Other good sources of oils are avocados, sunflower seeds, hemp & flax, omega-rich brown eggs, pecans, almonds, macadamia nuts, wild caught salmon, shellfish, cold pressed olive oil, grapeseed oil, sunflower & safflower oil.
