Okay, first off we use mainly pocket diapers on my 2 year old DS but now we are finding that when he has been wearing them for a while (not the same one, but like consecutively) the tip of his penis gets very red and starts oozing. We try to go back to CPF on him but then his bottom and the little creases next to his legs get red. I've tried stripping the diapers but nothing works...changing detergents...don't know what else to do. Ideas? That plus the fact that our hemp inserts get re-stinky after just a week is really frustrating us.

Also, my little 2 month old DD wears mostly sposies since nothing fits her very well except the few HH that we have. She gets pretty red in her HH so I have her in a plain CPF now and she is on her 3rd hour of sleeping. Do you guys wake your baby up to change them that often (the typical 1-2 hour mark). I couldn't do it to her in her sleep since she disturbs very easily and then it's murder to get her back down.

Just need some ideas for a discouraged mommy. Thanks!

IMO, PUL just doesn't breath so holds in all the heat and fumes of degrading potty (urine may be steril coming out, but once out starts to break down and bacteria developes-this is my opinion at least). some babies are more sensitive than others and so may get irritated faster. ds was constantly getting pink from wearing fb's, once i switched to wool and cotton fitteds (or even hemp/cotton) and recently prefolds all that are thin, w/o tons of layers (most of my stash are cotton pocket diapers and inserts and prefolds) he does great. i still change up to 15 more or less diapers a day at 16 months and I still will change at night if he's restless from wet diaper (most of the time he now holds all nigh and has a HUGE pee in the morning).

PERSONALLy i'd get rid of the pul and move onto something that breaths, ie. nylon, fleece, or wool. luck, reese

Our babies are very close in age! No, I do not wake her to change, but at night I use a fleece liner in her cpf and a wool cover. So far so good! At home I hardly ever use covers so she gets a lot of air circulating (and I do lot of diaper changing). When I sit her in her bouncy seat or something I just put a cpf under her diapered bum. If you have a super soaker try putting him in a cpf with a hemp doubler and no cover for a little each day. That should help things if the irritation is due to air not circulating. Also, we started getting stinky hemp, and I had to change my washing routine a few times until I got it right. I always do a cold rinse (sometimes with BacOut) and then a very hot wash with like 2 tbsp of Tide. I finish with another hot rinse to take out any residue. Hope this has helped! Good luck
