Here are some names I love that Dh shot down cold. Here are the boys:

Locke (doesn't go with our last name)
Aurelio (sounds too much like areola)
Tristan (too common)
Valentino
Valkyr
Rhys (pronounced "Reese")

Here are some girl ones:

Liliana (ex- sister in law's name)
Lilith (friend named her daughter this)
Kiera (too common)
Kamala
Elysia (like Elysian fields... I know, I'm super pagan!)
Willow (too many other pagans named their daughters this)

DH hated the Celtic names because we're hispanic and he wanted hispanic names. Lame!

"Probable" names for our first of each gender are:

Rowan Paul
Laurel Katherine

They are not my absolute favorites (though I do like them) but DH is impossible with names so it came down to ones that we both like well enough since he doesn't have ANY he loves, and he doesn't like the ones that I love. However if we decide the name just doesn't fit once our yet-to-be-conceived child is born, we may change our mind last-minute, so we are not sharing names ahead of time other than anonymously on the internet to people we don't know in real life, lol. We are pretty set on the middle names though since they are special family names.

Names I love but probably won't get to use:

Girls: Eleanor, Marah, Ainsley, Arienh, Quinn, Megan
Boys: Campbell, Noah, Aidan, Callum, Liam

Noah and Aidan have become SO popular I just couldn't use them now no matter how much I like them. Callum and Liam don't work with our last name, and the rest would be fine except that DH doesn't like them at ALL.

ok yes! i love this.

dh and I came up with names a few months into dating... and we still really like them... and haven't even been able to come up with much else ...

girl: Stella Ramone
boy: Malcolm Ramone

ok, I have to fess up actually. this is really embarrassing but our dog is also named Ramone (blush). We love him AND we looove the name.... and (sadly) dogs don't last forever! so.... !!?

Holly is also a runner up for a girls first name.
we don't really have a runner up for a boys name....

My sister loves the name Abel (and I do too)
I third the name Jasper
The name Jackson is popular but I feel like (as a childcare provider) the name was more popular back in 1999-2001 so you might be back in the safe zone! Plus Jackson and Jack are both awesome names I think!!!

names i like but not dh/ names i've heard in the playground that i thought were cool:

Dominic
Sage
Ian
Aaron
Pallas (i think she is a goddess of some kind)
Zephir/Zephyr
Rainer
Kai
Orion
Louella
Lucinda
Oscar
Eva
Valentine (a)
Luna
Raine/Loraine
Aspen
Roman
Cash
Rainer (the beloved and sweet boy I took care of for a few years!)
Simon
Axel
Nora
Fiona
Georgia
Virginia
Emmett
Ezra
Fionn (fee-on not really sure how to spell it. i believe its irish/celtic)
August
Claudine
Juniper
Aro/Ero (pronounced arrow... i've met both)
Esther
Hazel

I want to come up with at least one alternate name for both a boy and a girl that does NOT involve the name Ramone.

Love this game!

I really like for a girl:

* Pauline Fiora (and it uses grandmas' names)
* Josephine Clara (just pretty, and I like the idea of calling a little girl "Joey" for short)

Boys' names are still escaping me, except, I'm pretty sure I love this one:
* Theodore (Teddy )

If DS had been a girl his name would have been Beatrix Chiara. Now I think if our second child is a girl I'm leaning toward Matilda Rosemary. If I have a second child .

Boys names are way harder. Names for boys tend to migrate to the girls column (like Ashley and Leslie) and then people freak out and stop naming their boys those names...so overall there are less choices for sons. Celtic names are really in vogue right now...I wonder what will be next?

If we have a boy he'll most likely be named Jasper Howard. DH and I both love the name Jasper and Howard is after his grandfather that took a more fatherly role in his life b/c his dad wasn't around a lot.

Boy names we most likely won't use.
William Gerald it's both of our dad's 1st names. But my dad has asked that no one name kids after him and DH really dosen't want to honor his dad that way. But I like the way it sounds.

I love the name Richard, but with our last name it's a really dirty joke waiting to happen.

If we have another girl I have no idea what her name will be. DH and I had a hard time finding one for dd we agreed on.

I loved Ella Grace, but dh hates it.

Our names are picked out if we have a #4. He/she would be Liam Jackson or Hallie Jane.

I absolutely love the names Roan (boy) & Sadie (girl), but DH hates Roan & had a dog his whole childhood named Sadie. I also have always, always adored Elizabeth & Emily, but my sister used Elizabeth & Emma for her little girls.

Darn her. Luckily I'm the first in my family to procreate, so I get first dibs. I think my sister may have claimed the name Charlotte for a future babe though, and as she had a friend called Charlotte growing up I feel vaguely morally obligated to let her have it.

i'm not sure that i'll have any other children, so i'm not TTC or anything, but i love these names:

Jasper
Crispin
Blaise
Dashiel
Ambrose
Henry

Rosalie
Constance
Piper
Metta
Pumpkin
Violet

---

probably would not actually name a daughter pumpkin, but i am tempted.

i like old fashiond names

i can't say that i would use a name that i like. i believe that children name themselves and can communicate that name to us.

hence, my son's name is Hawk--as he communicated to us. middle name, octavian--also communicated to us.

never in a million years had either on a name list.

We're TTC our first together. A girl will be Alizabeth Helena (pronounced Heh-lay-na) after his grandmother (Elizabeth) and my grandmother (Helen). A boy will be Adrian Josiah. Adrian has been my favorite boy's name forever. DF is like 80+% Italian, and Adrian means "Person from Hadria (Northern Italy)." Josiah is just another name I like a lot. Alivia suggested Jack, and while it's a nice enough name, it doesn't go well enough with Adrian and either of our last names. We did like the fact that he could be AJ if he wanted, and that's what led us to Josiah.

*whew*

Names I like but can't use:
Lydia (too close to Alivia)
Atticus (DF shot down)
Adlai (DF shot down)

Plus, I've kind of started an A name trend....so it would be weird to change it....

Same here. Well I could, but I have no plans to get pregnant ever again. Should it happen and be a boy, his name would be Jasper Burton. I've loved that name since I was little.

I love love love Lucas...but it sounds stupid with my last name. Other than that, I am clueless on boy names.

I would like my next (hypothetically speaking) baby girl to be Scarlett.

whoa! i can't believe pallas is on someone else's list . . . that's so cool! i think it can be used for a boy or a girl.

i love all kinds of family names that i may or may not ever get a chance to use (as first or middle):
ruby (gma)
esther (g-gma)
blom (g-gma's maiden name)
lea (mom's middle name)
doris (other gma)
bruce (dad - ds2's middle name)
barry (uncle)
nels (g-gpa)
alvin (g-gpa)
lorrin (gpa . . . although i guess i prefer the more standard spelling of loren or maybe even lawrence as a near-miss)

non-family names i love: sieglinde (my #1 girl name right now), jerome, leonie, and (thanks to zoebird!) i now love crispin as well.

names i love but would probably not use, myself? keturah (means incense) and martin . . . don't ask me why!

Names I like that DH hates:

Boy: Luka, Adrian, Julian, Bennett, Gabriel
Girl: Aria, Adrienne, Louisa

DH loves Ruth, but I'm not fond of it. With the right middle name, it could work for me though.

If our next is a boy, he will be Elias Russell or Auden James/Joseph.
If our next is a girl, she will be Mira, Justine, or Ariana, although I stay awake at night trying to think of middle names for them and I can't come up with any.

I love love love Tristan and Iseult and considered naming a boy Tristan, but I agree, it's too common... Some other interesting names in that work though.

And I like Aurelia for a girl, but I never thought of that association!

I love names from literature, which is why I liked Bennett (P&P ) and Auden. I also like Emerson and Criseyde (or Cressida) but no one would ever pronounce it right.
