Is anyone using these? What's the deal? Our ped. offerred them at the six-month check-up, and I said "no thanks," but thought I'd check in with you all to see what people think. My mom pointed out that it would be nice to avoid cavities and dental bills, etc. I don't know much about fluoride. . . what is it anyway? We don't have fluoride in the water here, so if I don't give the drops, my babes won't get any. Maybe this is a good thing?

Thanks!

edited to fix the spelling of "fluoride"

There is some research that links fluoride to various diseases/illnesses so I wouldn't give my kids the drops. Brushing your teeth regularly and a good diet are really the best ways to prevent cavities. People have survived for thousands of years without fluoride drops so why do we need them now?

Here's some links that I've compiled along the way. We don't use flouride toothpaste for dd and we don't give flouride drops or anything like that. Right now I'm using toothpaste with flouride, but I don't always. LOL I prefer Tom's of Maine and they don't always have the formula I want at the store.

http://www.drjaygordon.com/pediatricks/fluoride.htm
http://www.alaskawellness.com/archives/flouride-pt3.htm
http://www.davidicke.net/medicalarch...flouride2.html
http://www.christianparents.com/fluorid2.htm

Thank you so much, especially for the links! Wouldn't it be nice if the ped. would give us that information when offering the drops? I'm going to print out a few copies of those articles for the moms in my baby group. When I asked them if they were giving the drops they all said "yes," and then talked about how much their babies hated them. I'm sure none of them even questioned whether or not to give them. . . Oh well.

I will continue to blindly refuse everything my ped. offers :LOL !

I don't know if you are breastfeeding, but research shows that babies *do* get flouride from breastmilk. If you do a search in the dental forum you'll find lots of information . Or should I change that to a big toothy .
