Hi,
I guess I need some help here!

My dd is 3 years old, and she is still not sleeping through the night. together with the babe it is exhausting for me! like being awake at least once an hour, living on caffeine ... she is waking up and really screaming - night terrors and nightmares.

Plus, she is a quite active kid with emotional outbursts, being quite aggressive at times ...

Additionally, she has atopic dermatitis and is quite often complaining about a painful bottom. Whenever she complains about this, she has a red ring around the bottom.

Now that I read a bit through the discussions, I got the impression that she might have some food intolerances. Where do I get more information about this?

I am not into food intolerance that much, to be honest I think that it is kind of overused, and I really don´t want to cut her off certain foods unless there is real data that she has an intolerance, you know what I mean?! On the other side I obviously don´t want to overlook anything.

I am a bit confused. Can you help me?

Thanks!

Real Data:
red ring on bottom
atopic dermatitis
emotional outbursts/aggressive
night terrors
waking up screaming all night long

The top 4 causes are dairy, gluten, soy, corn.

Has she had a lot of ear infections?
Was she colicky as an infant?

The first step is a food journal. Write down everything she eats/drinks and all symptoms, and maybe you can establish a pattern without having to remove anything first (but it's doubtful, since the top 4 foods are in 90% of the foods out there).

Actually, I think food intolerances are grossly underdiagnosed!!

Hi,
I guess, you have your point

I just don´t know much about food allergy symptoms except the rash ones.

Let me put it that way, I am not to sure about food related problems, but honestly, I don´t know much about it. I had this problem in my personal childhood that a funny doctor told my mom that I am allergic to all animal protein - so I was on a vegan diet - and I was not happy about it. I was 13 or something at that age. It did not change anything - and I can´t recall what it was supposed to clear anyway ... after a couple of month my mom allowed me back on "real" food. I guess that was quite a traumatic time for me, since she did not really offer me much food at all. I was starving! I guess, that is something I don´t want to do to my daughter.

But, as I said, I don´t know much about symptoms and everything, even though I really should ... can someone tell me some references - like books or webpages or something?

She was actually checked for celiac´s when she was tiny - did I mention that she is rather tiny for her age?

Thanks a lot!
