I am now 28 weeks. Yesterday I ate very little so last night when I went grocery shopping I had a Burrito Supreme at our local Taco Bell (not the best choice but I only had two dollars in change). Early this morning (about 5 a.m.) I woke up because of terrible cramping pain in my back and intestines. It was horrible and very intense-the cramps peaking and tapering off for about an hour or so. It reminded me of the back labor I experienced with my second dd but even more painful.

Anyway, today I haven't had any more spasms but my joints ache and my stomach is still very unsettled. Does this sound like food poisoning? And if it is food posoining, should I call my midwife? Could this affect the baby as well? Should I be concerned or does the placenta protect against such mishaps as food poisoning? Your opinions might soothe this worrying Mama mind!

I contracted e.coli with my 1st when I was about 12 weeks. This was when I was not eating any meat, so I think it was cross-contamination. I bought this frozen lasagna from Safeway and ate the whole thing. The noodles had a greenish tint and the "6 cheeses" were really gross. After I ate it I vomited for a long time. (The only times I ever vomited were when I was poisoned.)

Sadly, I could not get anyone to test this out because they kept saying "You're just pregnant, that's all it is." It was not confirmed until nearly 20 weeks when I was vomiting up stomach acid several times a day and had serious diarrhea. They did a simple lab test and found it.

After taking antibiotics, everything was fine. Nothing apparently wrong with the baby. Just make sure you know what's up with your food!

I had some sort of gastrointestinal illness in my second trimester. I vomited for two days and couldn't keep anything down. I'm not sure if it was food poisoning or a virus, but several other people who were at a birthday part I attended were sick at the same time. I hadn't eaten anything that struck me as high risk, but I did drink some sun tea and I've heard that it can be a breeding ground for bacteria.

I, of course, was worried that I had contacted listeriosis, but when I called the doctor, they only seemed concerned with whether I remained well hydrated. So as far as I know, everything is fine with my baby, but I guess I'll know for certain in a few days.
