I've heard your tastes/smells can change in the first trimester but is anyone experiencing this now? I had to throw my Lean Cuisine dinner out tonight because it tasted funny and also 2 yogurts over the past 2 days. Is my sense of taste way off? Food is tasting much stronger than usual ... like my yogurt is flavored but tastes almost like plain yogurt.

Things do taste off from time to time. The worst part for me isn't how things taste when I'm eating them, it's the aftertaste. If it weren't for gum, I'd be brushing 20 times a day.

Not from your DDC, but had to butt in

I can't eat hummus when pregnant. It tastes metallic.

I'm a veggie, and unfortunately I'm finding myself hating all my meat alternatives (that I NEED for the protein) I've tried a couple different kinds of 'chik'n' and such, and they all just taste nasty and FAKE to me (when I usually gobble them right up).

Yeah, nothing tastes right. I always end up using butter and salt on my food, which isn't normal for me. My taste buds even feel a little swollen...

i am having the same problem i had with my first pregnancy - it feels like i have this really thick film on my tongue. it makes things taste kinda funny and gives me the illusion that my tongue is numb (even though it isn't). it just started over the last couple of days (i am almost 15 wks.). when i asked my doctor about this last time he said he had never heard of that complaint before, but i shouldn't worry.

Yeah, I can't eat or drink most of the things I liked pre-pregnancy. Coke is too sweet. Carbonated water tastes funny. Pizza is yucky. Garlic is too strong. Peanut butter (my favorite) makes me gag. Chocolate? Ugh.

I'm down to cheerios & frozen waffles & cottage cheese most days. Just this last week I started to be able to eat chili & burritos again.

And the things I DO eat seem to need a lot more salt than normal.

I was ok on this one until just now. I pulled an apple out of my purse (put in there this morning) and took a bite, expecting a nice tasty apple like I've been eating most days since they've been ripe on our tree. It tastes like mold. Ugh. And I'm hungry. And I forgot the dip for my veggies on the kitchen table.

Oh, and my breakfast burrito from this morning, it tasted gross too. *sigh*

Luckily food tastes fine and good, but the taste in my mouth generally is icky. There are a couple things that I usually love that aren't too palatable - black coffee and garlic, for example.

I'm with ya too - everything I used to love eating tastes horrid. And like QuiteLikeRain I'm veggie and am having the same problem with meat alternatives, namely my fave alternative, tempeh burgers - can't be near them. I am now eating mashed or liquidy stuff. Mashed potatoes, mashed squash, mashed carrots, boiled sweet potato and broccoli pureed, applesauce, smoothies, etc. Last month the only thing I liked was fresh fruit.

Nothing has tasted normal for me in several weeks. I cannot count the number of times I've cooked or orders something that I usually love and then just couldn't stomach eating it.

Funny you say that because I've been on a broccoli bender lately! Over the last 2 weeks I've made broccoli salad 2x, and have ordered brocolli with white rice at the restaurant I waitress at (2 nights/week) regularly. I mean, normally I like broc., but this is just weird.

Oh, and chocolate. I've been addicted to chocolate lately...I was with my first pregnancy too, but I'm really trying not to give in to it this time...
