I am down to my last pack of sposies and I'm procrastinating! I can't decide whether to plunk down a good chunk of change (as you can see from my name, that's what I'm good at) on a stash of CDs or do the no frills thing for a change and EC or do a little of both. I've bought the Diaper Free book by Ingrid Bauer, but have yet to read throught the whole thing. I spend all day with DS, don't work, but I'm just getting better from PPD so I don't want to take up something that'll put me in over my head.
Does it take a lot of dedication to EC? If you only EC part time, how do you do it?

Well, we do EC and CD. We never planned to EC, but when DD was born she was super sensitive to being in dirty diapers and we just kind of followed her lead. I have her in a diaper all the time and just put her on the potty after naps/eating, and when she signals. She used to go on the potty a lot, but now that she's mobile she doesn't seem to care as much if she goes in her diaper. I know doing full-time EC works for some people, but even when she was younger and if we were home all day we still missed a fair amount of pees. I change her immediately, but I like having her in a diaper so I don't have to worry if she doesn't signal and we don't get her to the potty on time.

I would say, if you're uncertain, go ahead and put your baby in cloth (coverless) and make sure you change her immediately if she wets in the diaper. That way if you don't catch everything, you won't have messes around the house. You probably won't need a ton of diapers if you are doing EC, so it won't be like you've invested a ton of money in cloth if you decide to go diaperless later.

And as far as dedication, no. It's really much easier than I ever would have thought. I change my daughter every time she goes in her diaper anyway, so it's just like a diaper change where I put her on the potty for a minute. I think it will pay off down the road when it's time to PL too, and a little more work now will mean less later on.

I think with the great results I have had from my kids EC and CD is the way to go. All 3 of my boys were PT at 22mos about. I used fitteds and wool pull on covers of longies. I am partial to recycled wool and snap fitteds for quick potty missions and many times after the poop came I would just pull on a pair of wool shorts/ pants and It worked great.
