Did you use any type of liquid to substitute for breastfeeding during a regular session? I am thinking that some warm milk might be nice before bedtime when we start attempting to drop that feeding, but my ds absolutely HATES cow's milk. I really don't want to get him started on soy or rice milk and I'm afraid water won't quite cut it.
Any suggestions?
Hi,

My DD is 2 days younger than yours. We are currently weaning and we're down to bedtime and during the night/early morning. I keep a sippy of water nearby if she still wants something to drink after we nurse or for during the night if she wakes. (She sleeps in a toddler bed in her own room unless she wakes in the early morning and I bring her to ours.) I'm sort of worried about creating a habit of a sippy of milk before bed when one of the last things she does is brush her teeth! She was ok with having to stop nursing when I asked, but does still occasionally fuss for soy milk before bed. I tell her she can have it when she wakes up and offer water and that seems to satisfy her.

What was pretty effective to gently wean her to the point we're at now is that I created a naptime and bedtime routine where we nursed before everything else so that she fell asleep without a boob in her mouth, which she's always done since birth. And every week I let her nurse a little bit less. Right now, she nurses before bed about 5 seconds each side and pops right off when I ask her to. Even 3-4 months ago, this would have been really hard for her. I made it through her 2 year molars before even attempting weaning. It's working for us and she's not traumatized which was really important to me!
