Anyone who has gone through this I would love to hear what Rx you had on hand for your little one. Looks like we will be needing it. I don't plan on using it unless she starts showing signs of fever, etc. but figure nows the time to start looking at which one has less side effects. Any help?

Hi there. DD has reflux and she has taken a number of different abx for it. She is currently on Bactrim, although we will probably be changing to Nitrofuradantin next week. You might find this article helpful. If you scroll down to section 3 it talks specifically about which abx are given for prophylaxis for reflux, and why. It also talks about some of the side effects.

Pat - that definately helps, but now I just have to figure out how to get the probiotics into her diet cause none of them would transfer through breastmilk right? Ugh, how do I give nondairy probiotics to a newborn???

Water kefir. http://www.weim.net/homeovet/Docs/water%20kefir.pdf

I'd just give ~1/4 tsp daily, basically have baby suck it off of your finger. Also, there are non-dairy bifidum bacteria for infants. I believe Kirkmans brand is allergen-free. Same process, baby just sucks it off of your finger.

We have used Nitrofurandantin- DD HATED the taste. And it's pretty expensive.
Now we have Septra and it's fine and she doesn't fight it.

I gave my DD infant probiotics (they come in powder form) by mixing the dose into a little bit of BM or weak chamomile tea (cool, of course) and giving it to her in a very small syringe (maybe 1ml). It worked great.

BTW: The chamomile tea was b/c we had major tummy issues/gas when she was young and it really seemed to help!
