I just found out that I am waiting for loss number two this year. Baby had a slowish heartbeat last Friday, and by today it was gone and the sac is already collapsing. They showed me there was some uterine bleeding already starting, so I'm guessing the miscarriage will start soon, but will it? I should be 8 weeks tomorrow. Last time the bleeding started early, at 5w3d and I didn't find out for sure it was a loss till 3 weeks later, so I guess we're doing things the other way round this time. :(

So I'm urgently wondering what to expect of a loss at this point since it's a few weeks farther along than before. Also, would anyone who has miscarried at home but collected the baby for testing please tell me how to go about it? Anything special I need to do? My head is just spinning right now. I'm not even sure that we will go through with testing but my awful OB had already suggested earlier this week that we schedule a D&C so that we could do chromosomal testing. I have no interest in that and plan to let my body do what it needs to, but would really like to start getting answers.

I am so sorry, mama. It's so unfair to have to go through this repeatedly. There is a great collection of stories here: http://www.mothering.com/community/forum/thread/187976/exactly-what-to-expect-with-a-m-c-please-tell-your-stories-what-do-you-see

A lot of times, with a loss at this stage, it will take until 10-12wks (when the placenta is supposed to take over progesterone production) for your body to expel the baby. I hope your wait is gentle is quick.

I just collected what i passed and put it in a zip lock baggy and into the fridge til i could get it to the dr, in this case i went to the ER within 1 -2 hours of it happening because i was bleeding a good amount and felt like i was going to faint/dizzy. I was told they weren't sure if they could do any testing because they screwed up and put the tissue in formalin not saline . a few days later i had a follow up with a dr and had passed some more tissue and by the time i gave that tissue to a dr i was told he wasn't sure if the lab could do testing on it since it be contaminated with bacteria already but would put it in what it needed to go in to go for testing and i'd get a call if anything came back abnormal.

With my missed m/c before that baby measured 6wks at the first u/s when i should had been 10wks, i week later at 11wks i started bleeding went to the ER and the u/s they did showed a baby measuring 8wkw range ( i think that dr that did the first u/d didn't know how to measured and she was also that one that did my first u/s for my recent missed m/c) I ended up not passing that baby til when i would had been 13wks along. They did very very basic testing which i was told that it had passed intact and the microscopic showed nothing abnormal.

I am so sorry for your loss.

At my 8w u/s, the baby measured 6w3d with no heartbeat. One week later, a followup scan showed some bleeding in the uterus. I had no spotting or bleeding until I was 10w exactly, and I had a little gush of amniotic fluid. That same day I took Misoprostol, which did nothing. A few hours after the second dose the next day, I started passing lots of very large clots. It took about 4-5 hours and was completely painless, which really surprised me.

I'm very sorry you're in this position. I know how difficult it is to wait indefinitely. I hope things start to happen for you very soon.

Thanks so much for your responses, it helps a lot to hear other's stories.I really can't decide if the chromosomal testing would tell us anything that would change our feelings or approach to further testing on us. Meaning, I'm eager to start testing for a battery of stuff especially on me given maternal family history and I don't think any results from this particular fetus would change that much. But maybe someone here has experience or perspective on that for me?

It doesn't help that I don't have a good doctor of any sort to talk this through with. Would anyone believe that my OB STILL hasn't called me?!?! The ultrasound tech and radiologist paged her immediately on Friday as per their policy I guess, and after half an hour of agonizing waiting (we obviously knew what the tech had/hadn't seen) we demanded to just speak to the radiologist. But meanwhile my awful OB (there are other issues I have with her...) has a patient who for all she knows started miscarrying over the weekend or who knows???? and still, as of now on Monday afternoon, hasn't made contact with me at all!

Ugh, so that's one of my many vents at the moment. Not like I even want to talk to her anyway, it's just appalling to me. I was also wondering if anyone has used western or Chinese herbs while waiting for a miscarriage late first tri and if so could you give me some input/your experiences? Maybe I should start a separate thread for that. I have a sister who is an acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist so she's sending me some formulas. I was also thinking about using black and blue cohosh to get things moving. And Shepherd's Purse and Witch Hazel afterward to aid healing and prevent hemorrhaging. Also, has anyone used Evening Primrose Oil to help encourage estrogen and cervix ripening? Would that help at all?

I know I'm likely in for a long wait as I've had no spotting and barely any little cramping....But I'm the kind of person who feels better doing research and whatever I can to support and encourage my body in the meantime....

I know another mama on here just used high doses of Vitamin C and, I believe, parsley inserted vaginally. It seemed to work for her.

Once I knew for sure the baby was gone (week 9-10) I took some EPO orally and also broke open some capsules and applied it directly to the cervix. Obviously I don't know if it's related, but my OB did check my cervix and said it was soft and slightly open, and a day later my water broke.

I took homeopathic blue and black cohosh for a couple of days along with angelica, I also took labor prep (with blue cohosh) for several days before that. Nothing happened. I gave my body a day to rest and then I took everything together and took castor oil. I went into labor that night but I have no idea if it was related. I honestly don't think anything will work until our bodies are ready besides prescription drugs. But it gives us something to do while we wait and those things are not going to hurt. Just be gentle with yourself mama and know that your body will birth your baby when it's ready to.
