When one child is sick and the other is just fine but does not want to do their work because the other one is not-what do you do?

This is quite the struggle today so I have just let her play sick.

We are unschoolers so my kids' "school work" is motivated by them. Usually they are thrilled to have more of my time and attention to work on things they want when a sibling is sick. So we'll often put the sleepy sick sibling on the couch with a DVD or some quiet music and then get busy doing something we've been putting off that takes a bit more one-on-one than I'm often able to give.

Maybe it's a good day for a special project with the healthy kid?

Well, DS is still pretty little, so most of his sick days involve me holding him for hours. I figure we are learning almost every day, we need a break

We do have assigned work, so I would probably take the "if you're too sick to work, you're too sick to play" approach and send them to bed.

This is a wonderful opportunity chance for them to help you with the sick child like bringing a drink of water and asking if there is anything you can bring the sick child like a book or toy. You could also emphasize the importance of hand washing and how germs are spread! Bringing lunch on a tray is always fun for both server and recipient! Your healthy child could make a "Get Well" card!
