Just read this in the Oregonian:

Sorta for punk mamas, but really for all that don't fit in...
article states:

"I haven't been to a mall in years. My son wears purple and has baby dolls," Covington says. "We don't fit in with mainstream consumerist culture."

Most practice attachment parenting: a focus on building physical attachment with children by breast-feeding, avoiding day care, carrying their children in sling-style carriers and co-sleeping, Covington says.

Great little article. Not surprised these groups are here, though... Just makes me love Portland more, really. ... But, I get talked to all the time on Hawthorne (although I don't go to Freddies)...

I was in that article, and I came off sounding so sanctimonious! "TV, plastic toys, junk food - we don't do that." Snooty snoot snoot! Sigh. Reporters only quote such a miniscule portion of what you say - and not the important part, at that. Still, it was a kick to see it, and especially that she described zinebaby's t-shirt.

And ja mama, I'm not punk at all! Never have been, never will be. Just sort of fell in with these folks via zine-writing and checking in on Hipmama.com now and then. Really, come on over.
