Does anyone out there know of a doctor in the central MN area who knows a thing or two about the care of intact boys?

I'm having a heck of a time finding one who doesn't think we should just have DS circumcised, or who doesn't know not to retract.

I'm about 40 mins north of the TC's, and I'm willing to travel for somebody good.

TIA!

I have never had any problem with my intact boys. Just don't let them circ... then don't let them retract. There isn't anything they ever need to do. They just need to keep their hands off. Just say no. It is really easy.

Good luck.

Thanks Maureen, that's what we have been doing, and it was working fine until there was a problem.

DS developed some pain while urinating, and the docs just wanted to circumcise him instead of explaining to me that this was quite a natural transition while the foreskin separated from the glans. None of them knew the first thing about the foreskin because they never see intact boys. They actually scheduled a circ for him, but the problem corrected itself within a couple of days. It was all scare tactics about how we should have had it done already, and how it was only going to get worse if we left him intact. The pediatric urologist actually told me that his opinion was that the sooner you get rid of the foreskin, the better.

It was infuriating, to say the least.

I need to find a doc that I can trust will not just recommend circ any time there is a little problem. DH is circ'd, so he doesn't know what's what, either, so I feel like we really need someone who can guide us.

We go to Dr. Heidi Anderson who is a homebirther, non-vax, no circ., etc. its so great to be on the same page as your doc. She is with the Quello Clinics (edina). I found her by way of a rec from Amy on MDC.

Wow, thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely check her out. Edina is quite a ways for us, but to find a doctor who has the same ideas as me would be a rare treat indeed!

Thanks again!

Depending on which way north you are, St. Cloud might be closer.
Dr. Sault at Williams Integracare in St. Cloud. (http://www.icareclinics.com) is considered one of the best in this area by moms I've talked with. I saw the Nurse Practitioner there when my son was very young and screaming when he peed. The first Dr. I saw (at a different clinic) wouldn't even do a culture for infection, just told me to circ him. The NP at the clinic didn't know how to swab a non-circed penis for yeast, but she was great about consulting with Dr. Sault, he came in and made sure she did it right. They were both great. I've also heard his sons are not circed, but I can't guarantee that.
