I was wanting to know if anyone could give me the links to websites about why formula is bad, what exactly is in formula, things like that. I didn't know until a lady on another website posted that there is corn syrup in formula I was stunned. Thanks.

Kellymom and Jack Newman have some great info about the risks of formula.
http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/mi...t-formula.html
Here is a list of studies (but no abstracts)
http://www.kellymom.com/newman/risks...ula_08-02.html
and from the BF task force of LA: http://www.breastfeedingtaskforla.org/ABMRisks.htm

I don't like to think of formula as 'bad'. Formula fed babies are at higher risks for illnesses and health problems (NEC, respiratory infections, GI infections etc etc.) For most babies, formula adds many more risks than benefits. Moms need to know of these risks. Without formula, some babies would be very ill. Because we don't have enough milk banks, some infants must have formula (for example if the mother doesn't have enough milk, if she is on chemo, etc.). And there are some infants with bad sensitivities or allergies who need elemental formula. Just like medications are needed for some babies, and the benefits of those medications outweigh the risks for that particular baby, some babies need formula, and the benefits outweigh the risks for that baby.

yes formula has corn syrup it is one of the main ingredients. I was happy to find that the organic formula I use to supplement does not have it! Oh and a funny note...DH had to give DD formula from a bottle while I was in class (we usually use a SNS) and DD looked at the bottle funny like what are you doing? that isn't where I get milk...so DH thought it might be too hot or something so he tasted a little bit... he said it was very gross. I told him he could try my milk to see the difference but he declined.

You're right. I apologize for saying that formula is bad. I formula fed my first dd after I stopped nursing her @ 3mos and I supplemented my younger dd for 5wks.

2pinks, how are things with your younger daughter now? Is breastfeeding going OK? Were you able to stop supplimenting with formula? I hope that you are both doing well!

Sometimes if mom has to head back to work she worries about her supply, etc. Be sure to post if you have any questions or worries. The moms here have great advice and can really help out with pumping questions etc.

I hope you are able to breastfeed your youngest daughter for a long time.
