CAN LOT NUMBER 20307RB - VOLUNTARY RECALL Columbus, Ohio, February 2, 2005 - The Ross Products Division of Abbott announced today that it is voluntarily recalling one lot of Similac Advance with Iron powdered infant formula in 12.9-ounce cans, Lot Number 20307RB, due to the presence of black plastic particles reported in a small number of cans. The Lot Number 20307RB is printed on the bottom of the can. This formula was distributed between September 15, 2004 and October 18, 2004 primarily in the Eastern half of the United States and in Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. If consumers have this product, they should contact Ross at 1-800-986-8884 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday. The particles are the result of an isolated manufacturing event that has already been corrected. Ross is working with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration on this voluntary recall. No serious health or safety reports have been received that are attributed to this situation. |
A leading infant formula milk maker has been forced to recall two popular brands after a five-month-old baby fell ill with food poisoning. SMA Nutrition agreed to issue the recall after learning that the bacterium which causes botulism had been found in two of its brands. Baby milk recall: Affected brands and dates SMA Gold infant formula powder SMA White infant formula powder Only expiry dates of 28 October 2001 and 28 November 2001 SMA Freephone helpline (0800) 212002 The affected brands are SMA Gold infant formula powder and SMA White infant formula powder, with expiry dates of 28 October 2001 and 28 November 2001. * In March of 2000, Nestlé Canada recalled its Good Start liquid concentrate and its follow-up liquid concentrate when temperature fluctuations in its manufacturing process could mot guarantee the sterility of these products. Consumers need to demand why these products were released onto the Canadian market to begin with when clearly problems were already noted at the manufacturing stage. |
