When it rains in the adoption world, it pours

In my other post I was discussing how our adoption plans were not going to work out.... I just got word that our foster care agency is closing!

They were actually the largest and oldest in the state, but for whatever reason they are closing their foster care program. So now I am trying to figure out what to do with our licence. I definately want it to remain active until we make a decision about what to do for our next adoption, and we need an agency to supervise us.

So what do you look for in an agency? what questons do you ask? We decided to try and find an agency on our own rather than trust the state to send us somewhere.

Unfortunatley, the child welfare agency ('the state') is taking all the licenced families and just dispersing them to other agencies. They suggested finding one we liked best ourselves!

Can you ask any workers you have worked for in the past to make recommendations as to which agencies they find the most competent. Or do you know any foster parents through other agencies? Call the various agencies and ask the foster home developer why you should sign on with them. They will give you the perks of their agency. Think about what you find most helpful (support, more money, less paperwork...) and go from their.
