Frances?

What do you think of this name? I'm really liking it. I'd like to use either Pearl or Vivian as a middle name (grandma's names).

Are there any other logical nicknames besides Franny?

Well, for boys I think Frank is a nickname for Frances--so why not Frankie??

My son used to go to preschool with a little girl named Vivian, they called her Vivi...I always thought that was so cute.

I'm having my second boy, so I'll just have to live through all of you who get to come up with these really cute girls names

I LOVE it! It's in my top five, but we are really set on Violet if we have a girl (which I kinda doubt) and this will certainly be our last child (#3) so we'll likely never get to use Franics or Frances. I personally don't much care for fran, so I would use it in full myself. Is Cissy or cici a nickname? I think I've heard that. Cissy might not go over so well though.

It was my grandfather's name actually, and while I heard that he always got teased for having a girl's name and used a nickname entirely different, I always wondered if the origin was a male's name way back when? So many girls names start out that way.
Its my sister's middle name and her grandmother's name so I'm a little biased! But I love it!!
I love it. Dh doesn't because of a family member named that so we won't be using it.
Well my very favorite book is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, so I'm pretty partial to Frances! It does seem like all those old-fashioned names are coming back into style now.
I'm really loving the name more and more. Thanks everyone!

I know this is horrible, but the first thing I think of is Francis from Pee Wee's Big Adventure!

I have a great aunt and uncle (married) both named Frances. So they are Uncle Frank and Aunt Frances. I've always found that just adorable.

My great-grandparents were named Cornelia and Cornelius.

We're actually considering Cornelia, too, but I just can't stand the thought of her being called Corny.

Actually, we don't even know if we're having a girl or a boy, so who knows.

I love it- very classic! And it sounds lovely with your DD's name. And nn's could be:
Franny
Francie (pronounced Fran-see)
Frankie
Cissy
ummm, there's probably more. Or you could just call her Frances!

Honestly, when I was growing up one of my friend's middle name was Frances and I remember thinking it was a terrible name, but this was in the 70's/80's so everyone was named Tiffany and Ashley and Megan. Now I think that classic names are really making a comeback, so I doubt it would be unpopular.

And just on a related note, my grandfather's name was Francis- but I haven't really heard it otherwise as a male name- it seems feminine to me!

I absolutely love it, it was my first choice for a girl name with ds, I wish I had used it for dd!
unfortunately her last name would be smith so I am not sure it would have worked for us (franny smith - sound like an apple). we are having a boy but we really love that name!
Very nice. Frances is our girl middle name and also my aunt's name. I like it a lot.
Its one of my favorite names ever! I cant though because our last name is very close to it...stupid DH's last name!!
I love the name Frances! Very classic and feminine!!!
