Borax mixed with maple syrup: you could use sugared water, but the little creatures already went into my syrup container (what a great surprise when you pour it on top o your pancakes :puke)

We had an invasion, and our tenants we going nuts, and 2 days after I did this, they were GONE! I put this mixture (a teaspoon) in plastic lids in several places in the house (moslty under furniture and on countertops to prevent my cat and kiddos from touching it). You could also place it in pierced containers to make it fully child proof.

The good thing about it is that you have to use so little borax that even if you pet ate it, it wouldn't be very toxic to him (it has a very low toxicity to mammals).
