I recently switched to cloth diapers, & my daughter has sensitive skin so i switched detergents to 'all' free & clear. i just read somewhere that the free & clear detegents leave build-up on cd's. I had been noticing my clothes feeling like there was some sort of sticky residue on them lately, & I have aslo had a problem with stains not coming out that I never had before. i thought maybe it was from switching to vinegar from fabric softener but now i'm not sure. i also have hard water & i've heard that can cause problems. (but my clothes felt fine before switching to vinegar & all detergent) anyone have suggestions? would trader joe's 'next to godliness' detergent be ok? that doesn't have fragrance but it's not called a 'free & clear'. if I have a chioce between liquid or powder, is one better than the other?

Look here.

That should help you decide what to use.

That link said that Planet brand was good for hard water. Has anyone had any experience with it?

We have used Planet and I think we have hard water. My biggest problem with planet is figuring out how much to use. I've used 1/4 of a cap and still had to do double rinses, but when I only use a few TBS, it doesn't seem to clean as well. It is good stuff, though.

Oh, I've heard that vinegar can sometimes make your CDs smell, but I forget why.

I think vinegar can cause a smell if you have hard water (I think I do), so I stopped using it and don't get the smell anymore. However, the diapers don't feel soft anymore either, but I'd rather have them not smell.

I have also recently switched to All free and clear and haven't been very happy with it. I'd been using Bold, which has perfume AND softners and I miss it so much. The Bold was also better at getting the stains out than All F&C, but guilt about baby's bottom made me switch.

I'm going to go check out that link that a PP posted.
