I just got a chest freezer!!
:

And when the woman saw me drive up with the two kiddos, planning to strap the freezer to the roof, she had her son load it into her minivan and drove it to my house, two towns over.

It's cute. It's a Haier, white, about 29 inches long and 32 inches tall. I've been reading Tightwad Gazette and a chest freezer was recommended several times just in the first couple chapters, so I was really excited to see one come up on freecycle.

So . . . tips and tricks?

Freezers operate best when they're mostly full, but still with enough room for air circulation. If you don't have enough food to fill the freezer right away, fill some milk jugs 2/3 full and put them in the freezer.

Good to know, thanks!

I was going to wash it out this evening, but dh had to stay very late at work and the kiddos were *done,* so tomorrow -- tomorrow I get to play with my new treasure!

Hey, we got our chest freezer from Freecycle also! It was only a few months old -- the husband of the woman who gave it to us had bought it for his hunting acquisitions, and then when he walked out on her, she Freecycled all his stuff. His loss was our gain!

OMG I kept reading and thinking, "Wow the son is a Haier, what is that an ethnic or regional term I don't know?". And then I got to the 29 inches long part....
