My first time totally going from scratch (and I mean, from scratch...I didn't measure or anything!) but it turned out pretty good I think.

Outer layer cotton jersey, a main layer burly knit terry, and a 2-layer burley knit terry internal soaker.

That is a strip of this stuff called "Velcro Velstretch"...it is stretchy velcro, and on this dipe I used it for the velcro AND the elastic on the back. The legs have cased elastic.

Pretty trim. And sews up quick. I made 2 more, red ones, but they already got used last night.

Give me your opinions, I'd love to hear them!

That looks smashing! Very nice. I've never heard of the velstretch stuff. Seems like it would be a really great idea for diapers!

On ebay I got 40 yards for $6 - including shipping! (edit: Oh. My. God. I just found the same thing online for $174/40 yrds. I guess I really really really really lucked out.
)
So far I really like it, but I'll have to see how it stands up over time.

Looks great! I'm working on an original pattern too, isn't it cool to make your own?!

they look awsome! i can't believe you did patchwork on them, though. wasn't that a ton of work? turned out great! (i've actually been collecting stuff to make my friend's daughter a crazy quilted dress, so it's fun to see someone else's take on it
)

do you find that two layers of bkt in the soaker are enough? that's what i made for my friend's dipes but i've been worried about whether it was enough. for milo i use a gazillion layers of hemp, but truthfully i hardly ever change his diaper. :LOL it works for us.

The patchwork was because almost all my knit stuff is scraps or remnants.
It took some time but I think it turned out well and was fun to do.

As for the layering - it is plenty absorbent for day, tonight we are going to try it for night. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks!
I'm happy to report they work for night. They seem to be getting more absorbent with each wash.

I made an AIO with my pattern, which has been revised a little.
It was good for 2 pees, but on the third the PUL wicked. Plus, I kinda suck at sewing PUL. I don't like to pin, and it doesn't like to stay still.
It is probably the trimmest AIO ever though.

those are great! i love the patchworking i was thinking bout trying to do that - but it just seems like it would take so long. i am pretty new to this and just love seeing what other mommies are doing.
Thanks,
- patchworking is not too hard, just a few minutes with the serger, and it's better than throwing out your scraps.

You know I think that velcro makes for fast elastic but it kind of makes the bum look poofy!
If you could get it to taper in at the back so it wasn't so wide.. but that's like asking them to custom make it for you! LOL

Cute diapers - I love the yellow one, your AIO pattern is really turning out nice!

Thanks Jen - I'm not totally happy with the velcro either, after a bunch of washes it looks kinda messy. I am selling some junk on eBay right now to buy me a snap press. I have so much recycled wool sitting around to make into covers - but I want them to be SNAP covers so I haven't yet.

*sigh* My snap press- what a wonderful gift that was! If you want snaps applied to a few things while you wait I wouldn't mind doing it for you.

I hope your ebay stuff sells quickly and high!

Thanks, Jen. I hope I don't have to take you up on it.
It looks like things are selling well so I expect to order one within 2 weeks! I am SOO excited.

I know you must be! I knew you wouldn't take me up on my offer simply because you want to experiment and play with placement! I couldn't draft a pattern if you made me but you are much more free with your diaper making! lol

Make sure and show us what you make!
