Someone at work told me about this website and I'm hooked!

I'm somewhat of a word geek, and I played this game for over an hour last night.

With each word that's defined correctly, FreeRice sends a grain of rice to the United Nations World Food program. Doesn't sound like much, but it's adding up. Check out the FAQ and the "Totals" tabs!

Thanks for posting this again. I had seen it here on MDC back in the fall and was briefly addicted, but hadn't been back in awhile. I just donated 1000 grains of rice. (They actually say they send 20 grains of rice for each correct word. Do you think they employ highly skilled college graduates as rice counters?)

I totally love it too!! I got 43 once, but am usually around 40.... I have to set time limits for myself so I don't play all day. :

Sorry, but grain-for-the-poor programs are ineffective at best, and downright destructive and classist at worst.

A grain of rice? I just caught that. LOL Not only does it not sound like much, it sounds downright insulting.

I agree with Periwinkle. There are better ways to help and you don't have to define words to do it.

eta: I went to the site. They start at 20 grains of rice, not one. Besides many definitions they give being...slightly off...it's a fun site, IMO.
