I have a lot of fresh commercial yogurt.

I do make my own yougurt, but after a few rounds, there's always a bad batch and I start all over with fresh yogurt as a starter. Fine, when I have access to the 6-oz size for a starter--but the yogurt I have now is in 1-quart containers!

Can I freeze some of this packaged yogurt (Horizon brand) for using as starter at some later date (or will it kill the bacteria)???

And another related question--do you think I should boil my yogurt equipment before use to keep bad bacteria/yeast adulterants to a minimum???
