Hi, I'm a mom of a 1 year old boy in the Fresno area. I've been trying to meet other moms so as to have some friends to relate to. I was just curious as to how many moms here are from this area, because I need some friends close by!

I am also in the Fresno area. I am sure you already know, but we have a great AP playgroup here. I have a little guy who is 22 months old, and a 6 year-old. Feel free to e-mail me...

I am glad you posted this! I'm not new to the Fresno area, but I am new to the whole SAHM thing. My son is 2 months old and my daughter is 11 years old. All of my friends work, so now it is hard to connect with anyone.

Kwgrlup ~ I know about the AP group, but not when it meets or any of the activities. Is there a specific day for meetings or other get togethers?

2busy2clean ~ I can totally relate -- I'm not here entirely by choice either. Although, there are many great things about living here. And I absolutely remember life before Riverpark and 168, not to mention Home Depot and Costco -- I sure do miss the drive-in

Oh wow, Firefrog (interesting name.
) I can remember my friends plan to put in a fancy riding stable where the first Home Depot ended up... and the drive thru, now that was a fun place to spend time on these nice summer evenings. memories.
Can you rember when Shaw was the north edge of town?
I grew up here, (mclane grad!) but when I married nine year ago, it was with gladness that I left the area. Yet, my husband, who had never lived here, dragged me back about a year ago. So, I have birthed my babies in other places and since our life is in transition, we haven't clicked in with many people yet. We couldn't believe the crazy housing market! People actually paid THAT MUCH to live here?
: Our solution is to build a house in Squaw Valley.

When do those AP playgroups happen?

We used to go 4x4ing in the fig orchards north of Shaw -- that was a blast! I went to Bullard, although I didn't end up graduating from there (long story -- family of origin drama!). I attended Fresno City, escaped to Sonoma State in Santa Rosa, and then found myself back here, too, raising my daughter.

My DH and I can't believe the housing prices here either! I think it is basically highway robbery to pay as much as they are asking. We would LOVE to live in the mountains, but family issues keep us in the city limits.

I'm glad you escaped for a couple of years.
Growing up I could never believe the number of people who had never traveled outside of the area! Not even Yosemite or the beach! Shot, that use to be the best thing about Fresno... cheap living, only 2 hours from something fun.

My mom was a Bullard grad, way back when that school had just started. Her yearbook pics show her with 12 to 20 other students.
Man this place has changed!

No kidding! I spent most of my childhood in Merced, actually. But we came down here alot. We would take long, meanderingdrives into the mountians around Mariposa and Oakhurst. I especially loved the Spring time when all the wildflowers are out. It is so easy to get caught in the rut of staying home that you forget about the beauty that surrounds Fresno. With gas prices the way they are, of course, it takes more thought to take those kind of drives, now.

oh man... gas prices! During our major heat wave I so wanted to grab the boys and head for the beach... but the budget said otherwise.

Thank goodness it is under $3 at a few places now!
The mountains are so pretty, especially in the spring! I really enjoy Yosemite in the spring or winter - it is so pretty with snow.
pity our air is so nasty we rarely see the hills now.

Were 170 miles away but go to Fresno quite a bit, were actually going there Monday for 3-4 days. Depending on whats up with my 2 mo old we may be moving there soon. We enjoy visiting and hope to do something fun this trip if we can get away from the hospital

It's so nice to see other Fresnans here. Yes I can remember before Riverpark and 168, hey I remember my Dad jack rabbit hunting where 41 streches out to now. It's just crazy. The housing prices are CRAZY
: We just purchased our 2nd home last year near Fresno State and thank goodness we did, because now prices are dropping, but not far enough that we could have afforded this house this year.
The AP group is great, I'm not a part of it anymore, because with older kiddos our needs have gone a different way, but I feel like Fresno has a great parent community.

I totally have a great GP -- her name is Dr. Sue Stone and she is a holistic doctor. She is covered by my insurance, too! (I have Blue Cross PPO) She is big on diet and supplements to fix the underlying cause. She helped me turn my infertiality problems around WITHOUT drugs or hormones. She sees all ages and she is located on Cedar Ave. just south of Alluvial in the office buildings next to Derrel's Mini Storage.

As for the dentist, we see Dr. Netzle. He's not really a kid's dentist, but he does sleep dentistry and he has a great manner about him.

Hope you're feeling better!
