I have a friend who is pregnant. She doesn't know what it is yet but will find out when she can....

She says she wants to circ if it is a boy but her husband says no...my views are very strong anti circ and I feel so strongly about it that I would feel uncertain about further friendship with her...She is a bit of a panicy, needy person and I just don't have enough to give to her...

She is jewish although not practicing and her husband was raised a christian... I think if you don't have a penis how can you know what is best for a penis...therefore leave it the way nature intended!

What can I say to her to help her decide against circ? Are there good resources somewhere, books or websites?

Thanks in advance

http://circumcision.org/ is good, and has a Jewish perspective.

My Son - The Little Jew With A Foreskin comes from a woman with a similar perspective as your friend.

I'm busy packing (ha, I'm supposed to be packing!) but zaftigmama posts in this forum frequently and she chose not to have her son ritually cut - she may be able to offer more perspective too. I spect she'll see this but PM her if she don't.

http://www.jewsagainstcircumcision.org/

would be my recommendation.

I also found an article by an elderly Jewish physician who was convinced after performing many circumcisions that it is a very wrong thing to do, but for the life of me I cannot find it again... I think it's related to the site listed above. All the parts of their site have the same address though so I don't know where on their site the article would be.

http://www.noharmm.org/goldmanbalt.htm - A Ph.D. talks about his book "Questioning Circumcision: A Jewish Perspective". That would probably be a good book to look into getting as well.

http://jewishcircumcision.org/spectator.htm - An article written by the author of the aforementioned book, Ronald Goldman Ph.D.

For nonreligious articles see my thread about the packet I made for a girl I know who just had a baby boy.

I hope these help!

love and peace.
