Help me! My washer is dying and with a 12 week old BF baby I need to wash every day...
I am considering a Front-Load washer this time around but just read you need to use special detergent with them?!?!
:

Can I use Charlie's soap in a FL washer? How about the washing soda/ simple green combo?

How about my regular clothes? How difficult is it to get this special detergent?

You don't need to buy the specially marked HE detergent, you just need one that's low-sudsing.

Charlie's Soap is a low-sudsing detergent and works fabulously in my FLer. I even use the same amoung -- a full scoop.

If you do want to use the HE detergent for the rest of your clothes, you can come across it everywhere. It's at Target, the grocery store, Walgreens. . .everywhere detergent is sold.

If you want to use regular high-sudsing detergent, then just use a 1/3 of the amount.

That's it!

I hate my front loader for washing dipes. I can't do a real soak in it and I have to rinse my dipes several times sometimes even if I use only a little bit of soap. OTOH, it is very gentle on my clothes and you can use "normal" detergent in it.

I have a FL washer and I don't use the HE detergent....even though mine is marked to use that....I have always used either Gain or All F&C but I just use about 1/3 of the recommended amount and I always do an extra rinse on all my clothes too. I have some Charlie's Soap on order though and plan to switch to using that for everything if I like it. I cant do a soak in my FL washer either (not a true soak) so when I wash dipes, I do a cold wash first with detergent (if I have any poopy dipes that are stained) or I do a cold rinse and spin (if they are just peed in dipes)...then I do one hot or warm wash (depending on what type of dipes I'm washing) and then an extra cold rinse. Make sure you don't overload when doing your dipes....those washers are great and roomy and wonderful for doing large loads of clothes but when you are doing dipes, you don't want to overload it because you can't adjust your water level yourself like you can in a top loading machine.
