So, with Spring here DH and I are craving lighter raw foods. I am finding that my lunch of nuts and cheese or leftover supper isn't doing it for me anymore. Now, I'm craving a lunch of a yogurt smoothie, nuts and bananas, more fruity things. I try to save my salads as a dinner side because DH likes them for dinner. Also, I'm thinking of more sandwiches. The only thing I see with this is that that would add more fruit and grains. I am trying to cut down my use of sweeteners (I don't use sugar, mostly honey and sorghum), and limit my grains to once a day. We love oats every few days in the mornings, so that is usually my grain intake. Is this a sign I should be increasing grains and not decreasing them? What about fruit? In NT, Fallon rarely mentions fruit and when she does it seems like it should only be eaten as a treat. I know fruit has to be a tf for some cultures. In the mountains, apples were a staple for breakfast and supper - fried in butter of course.
I'd like to hear what others are doing for Spring lunches, especially if you are thinking of food seasonally. Also, general lunch ideas. What do you think about fruit? Is it treat food only? How about adding grains in warm months? Let's talk.

I'm a seasonal fruit eater with the small exception of some frozen berries in my smoothies - but traditionally, berries were dried and stored. Otherwise through the winter I eat apples & pears, and treat myself to a few citrus fruits when they're in season in late winter.

In summer, I gorge on fruits as they become available. By the time each season is over, I'm a little sick of them
This year I'm going to do more drying along with the freezing.

That having been said, frozen blueberries are pretty much a staple of DD's diet. As it turns out, 20 lbs is NOT sufficient to get us through the winter.

We don't buy non-local fruit except citrus. Every once in a while if DD is having a difficult time with being dragged around I'll buy her a couple mini bananas, but generally bananas are eco-bad and socially-bad so I don't buy them. (Plus there is not a huge banana industry here in Canada.
)

I think if you imagine life without sugar, canning equipment and freezers, you can figure out when and how to eat fruit traditionally. (I pretend that freezers are traditional, but if you want to go all hard-core...)

Yeah, I agree with this. We're indulging in some strawberries these days--but living a more low-grain, sugarless diet makes fruit seem more like a treat.

I am a bad fruit consumer in the following ways... I don't like many of them. I eat the following: bananas, strawberries (usually frozen), peaches (frozen), pineapple (canned in juice, fresh, and frozen), a few other berries also frozen. I can stomach very few raw veggies. I will eat apples and pears cooked. I will eat most any fruit blended in a yogurt smoothie. Bananas are a biggie with me... I love them. Thanks for letting me know they are bad.
I knew a little about them and try to buy organic when available. The most fruit available locally would be berries and apples, pears. I don't know of any other local fruits. So, I guess I'm craving bananas, berry smoothies, frozen strawberries, and fried apples.

I do agree that since switching to natural sweeteners and using them as sparingly as I dare, fruit and such tastes soooo much sweeter.
