Frustrated with Enki....a small vent

So I was going to homeschool- decided last winter and purchased Enki (and Rightstart math
). All good. Love it and think it's a great package. BUT now we are not homeschooling (long story I don't feel comfortable sharing via the web).

So now I have Enki just staring me in the face. and it's alot of material to move around. Part of me just wants to throw it out, part of me wants to try and unethically sell it and part of me just doesn't know what to do!

I am frustrated. I live in Canada, so I am not going to ship it back to them. It would likely cost a small fortune and I am a bit bitter that I can't resell it - it's not like I used it. So for buying material I never used I end up with what?

I wish I was homeschooling and part of my frustration is with that too

Anyhow - just needed to get that off my chest. If you have any brilliance to shed on this - please do

Could you trade it for something you could use?
IMO, it is unethical for them to ask you not to resell something you have bought. I understand their view, and the fact that they need to make new sales to make money... but they've sent you a physical product. What are you supposed to do, destroy it when you have no further use for it? That's unethical, too. Reusing is better for the environment than recycling.

If they don't want people reselling their product, they need to change their sales strategy - have the items available for rent instead of sale, for example.

You know, just after I posted this I thought that! I wondered if I could barter/trade for it?!

I agree. I kinda feel like I'm supposed to throw it in the garbage. And that thought makes me ill.

thanks mamas.

In this situation, I would actually consider reselling it, though I don't know the company, so I don't know how their policy works. If you email them and explain, would they really say unused curric can't be sold?
Have you considered emailing Enki to see if they have suggestions? Maybe they would be willing to pass them to a lower income family or something?
Legally, I'm not sure they have a leg to stand on in telling you that you CANNOT resell the product you have purchased. You own it, you own the right to do with it as you choose. However, they DO have the right to say that they do not provide the additional services, that normally come with a curriculum purchased new from them, to someone who purchases the material used/2nd hand.

So if it were me, I'd sell it while making sure that potential buyers knew that it didn't entitle them to consultations etc with the Enki company, but that they would get all the great materials

I also agree.

I see lots of people selling Enki, and I would not hesitate to do so either. It is an extremely expensive program and it is perfectly reasonable to want to recoup some of that expense. And, there are plenty of people who cannot afford the program, so I would consider it a good thing to sell it at about a 50% discount.

I'd sell it without feeling a bit guilty about it.

hmmmmm. I think I will write to Enki and ask them what they think. If I paid 'tuition' at a school and never went I would assume I could recoup some costs?!

and where are people selling Enki? Seriously? When I was on this board and researching it seemed that Enki for Sale posts were flagged? I feel like the Enki police would 'get' me!
:

I would totally love to recoup half my costs, and reclaim an entire bookshelf!

Thanks for all your thoughts.

I bought some used Enki materials off Ebay. (I also spent well over $200 through Enki themselves so it's not like they didn't get my $ too) I do not feel a bit guilty about it and am very put off by the request not to resell something that is MY property. (REDICULOUS!
)

That makes me not want to buy Enki ever. What a weird request for a business to make.
i would sell at vegsource.com or homeschoolclassifieds.com - i always have things sell very fast there. the enki police won't get you. they can't get you, lol. it is YOUR stuff! hth.

Yep, if you were photocopying it and THEN trying to sell that they'd have a good reason to be cranky and 'come after you' ... but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't stand up to a challenge if they attempted to prosecute

Just morbid curiosity... how much does this program cost? I agree with the others, their resell policy is what's unethical. Winter Promise has the same "no resell" policy. Ick.
there is also a yahoo group- waldorfcurriculum-supplies- where you can sell it.

i was in a similar situation to yours and ended up deciding to sell it (after going back and forth and really stressing about it). i couldn't see throwing it away (or recycling it) when i had spent SO much money on it, and i ended up selling it.

for your homeschooling dreams not working out.

What grade is it?

I agree with Cari and the others. THere have been a few threads discussing the legality of it and really, I don't think they have any right to tell you what to do with your property. I would sell it. That stuff can cost $700 or more, that's a lot of money to never touch.
