Hi ladies,

I was talking to my MW today about the general blues/anxiety I've been feeling, and she suggested that I come up with some ways to reincorporate some of the fun back in to this pregnancy. Rather than just the drudgery of waiting, waiting, waiting...

She suggested maybe doing a belly cast or some other celebration. What are you all doing to pamper yourself, or celebrate, or just feel otherwise excited about this last bit of time?

This is my last PG so I'm trying to remind myself to savor these last weeks. I'd love to hear your ideas. TIA

I want to do a cast so bad! I just need to google and find out where I can get the supplies.

We are just now starting on our nursery, so that will keep us busy for several weeks. We are going to head to a few pumpkin patches, go to the fair this weekend, maybe go to the park a few times until it gets cold.

We are also going through our garage(that is FULL of my stuff from when I moved in several months ago.)

We have a lot to do before this baby comes.

Oh we are definately doing a belly cast!! Jennifer, I picked up the supplies for my last belly cast and the one I did when I was trying to get together a portfolio to do them professional (um, the energy required for the daycare sorta shut down that idea for the moment) from a local medical shop. Enough for the casts was about $40-$50 (dunno if thats going to be similar in other areas) so if you can find a full kit for less than that online I'd use that, but otherwise just a medical shop, you just need the plaster casting bandages that you can dip in water... they come in different widths, I think for the one I made for the twin mama who's belly I casted I got 3" strips and got 4-6 of the rolls? Its been awhile I've forgotten!

I'm still trying to find a photographer to do maternity family shots and then newborn family photos that doesn't cost over $250 per session (without including anything but proofs). I'm sure the ones who charge that much are very worth the cost, but its out of our budget since we now have $3000 to pay for the midwives by march!

I'm still trying to think of an easy and fun halloween costume too. Something I can wear to MIL's church 'trunk or treat'.

And we still have to finish setting up the nursery (doubles as a napping room for the daycare), going through diapers and clothes and such and setting them up in there, that will be a fun project!

Even though I'm working full time until Nov. 1st (12 days before due date), I do have some fun projects planned this month. I'll be making a labor/birthing necklace out of the beads people contributed at my showers. I'm also looking forward to putting together an iPod playlist for labor and perhaps making an inspiring small collage to bring to the birth center to focus on during labor.

I've thought about a belly cast too. A friend recommended http://www.proudbody.com to me for affordable, good quality casting.

I hadn't thought about what to do but this is a great instigator to have stuff available.

I know that after the baby shower and parental visits, DH and I plan to take the rest of this time to just really enjoy each other as a duo. I think we will try and do stuff that we know we won't have time to do when we first become parents (e.g., go to the movies, go out with friends to dinner)

I've been trying to talk to her...it helps with the anxiety, for me at least.

I would love to try to make a little quilt for my babe (which I never have done before!). It would be a nice challenge. But I doubt I'll have the time. A couple large recieving blankets might be made instead. LOL Much easier, and still a challenge.

I'm getting lost in reading and knitting this last trimester. I do think maternity photos would be fun but I fear how the photos would come out.

I want to get a henna tattoo. I've been wanting this for 5 years, and this time, i WILL do it. I just love the idea, but also, I want to have it done before halloween, when I am hoping to dress up like a belly dancer - I know - different culture, but it would be funny, right?
I hear ya. I wanted pics too; maybe even pics of the birth this time since I threatened ppl last time and only the bravest took a couple snapshots. LOL But the budget is tight, and after the week we've had...well, month really...first there was a hurricane and then the stock market fell apart.

I think I found a mama to take pics. She is starting her photo business and needs maternity and baby pics for her online portfolio. She is willing to take my pics for FREE if I let her use them on the website. woo hoo!

For Halloween, I am hoping it won't be too cold and I can wear a sleeveless maternity blouse. It's BRIGHT orange and I can make a jack-o-lantern face out of black electrical tape.

*I've been knitting a TON! A lot of really funky blankets in really awesome colors that are a nice change from all the soft hues of babydome! hats, booties, etc...

* I just made a no-sew blanket out of two fleece scraps I picked up from a fabric store for like a dollar each...it's super cute and warm. REALLY easy!

*SO and I are going to Bradley classes, so once a week we get to meet with another preggo couple and our really neat instructor which is pretty fun.

* I plan on making an I-Pod play list for labor.

* I plan on making a collage for SO of things he can describe to me while I'm trying to relax through labor.

*When my belly gets a little bigger, I plan on getting a friend of ours to take some pregnancy photos of me and SO together.

*I turn 21 in about a month, so we might make a couple of trips up to some casinos together...yay!

I think the Henna sounds really awesome too!!!!

We did a cast, and it was lots of fun! It doesn't have to cost $50, either. If you go to an art supply store, they often have the plaster rolls for about $2 for 15 yards. I used 2 rolls, but next time, we'll probably use 4 rolls. With 2 rolls, it's more like a dainty hammock than a big, strong torso. I'm probably going to stain it with dark browns and coppers and use it as a decorative bowl. Besides the plaster cast, all you really need are towels, a big bowl of warm water, and some vaseline. I still need to investigate sealing it-- whether I can use my normal Polycrylic or need some sort of resin.

I'm also working on a show for a local gallery in January, so i'm doing lots of studies of my own bellies and the bellies of my pregnant friends. My dining room is full of loads and loads of big, pregnant bellies!

And getting the nursery ready, of course. We didn't have a nursery for DD, so it's been a lot of fun planning a relaxing room for the baby. We plan to cosleep for at least 6 months, but it'll still be the only quiet, toy-absent oasis in a house ruled by a 2-year-old.

I'm also reading a lot, just re-reading old favorites. In my first pregnancy, we saw pretty much every movie that even faintly appealed to us, because we knew our movie viewing habits would be cut off once the baby was around. We'd love to be doing that now, but the combination of our toddler and the horrible movies out right now are working against us. And I wish I could sleep more, too!

I treat myself to some sea salt scrub, and a candle. This time around it's Trader Joe's Lavender Sea Salt Scrub, and a Citrus Teak SOI candle I got from the mobywrap website. I love that the SOI candle can be used as a moisturizer, too. Also, with my last pg, we couldn't afford belly shots (nor will we be able to this time), but one night when I was sea salt scrubbing my ENORMOUS belly by candlelight, and it was so beautiful, and so I asked DH to bring the camera. Let's suffice to say that he is NOT atistic AT ALL, and he took the most amazing photo- because of the candlelight, it's mostly in shades of red, and a little blurry, and so beautiful... I'm hoping to have him try again this time around! (actually, I want to paint a pumpkin on my belly, and take pictures at the pumpkin patch!)

i love the idea of treating yourself, but i think thats an every day thing.

im guessing its a lot easier in a way if you dont have kids. i spend the day treasuring the pregnancy, as it will be the last one i have, and treasuring my free time and time with DH.

but perhaps there is something folks with kids can do to appreciate and treasure teh family unit as it is now, as that will change too?

I'm also doing hypnobabies, just starting that this week.. A close group of friends are throwing me a celebration mid Nov too. I was shocked and I'm sooo excited! I hope to let dh or the kids paint a pumpkin on my belly too.

DH just IMed me, and wants to rent the clubhouse at a park for a big shindig. We've been meaning to get all the friends we know together in one place so they can meet each other. Like a mixer of some sort? So, that means lots and lots of party planning for me. Hopefully, I won't have to do too much of the work. But I think it could be lots of fun!

Also, our landlord has been saying for a year now that he wants to gut our bathroom and kitchen. Guess when he wants to do it?! We agreed August would be good, but now the appeal of a fresh new kitchen and bathroom is losing its luster.

Other than that, I think I am going to do a belly cast.
