Originally DH and I were going to keep the gender a complete secret from everyone but ourselves...but recently we've been talking it over and thought we'd let our folks in on the secret, especially my parents, since the baby is their first grandchild and they are, well, to put it mildly, *insanely* excited about becoming grandparents.

I'll be seeing my folks this Sunday (for both Mother's day and my birthday) and wanted to give my mom something that would reveal the baby's gender (girl) in a fun way.

Any suggestions?

My family is HUGE into scratchers so I wanted to make some homemade

http://artmind-etcetera.blogspot.com...y-tickets.html

but I dont think I could keep the secret between finding out and them receiving the scratchers (especially because im so eager to call baby by their name)

Maeryn - That's such a cool idea for so many things. I'm definitely filing that away for future reference!

Laurski - You could give her a picture frame that is obviously girly, or if your mom likes to cook, a cookbook of recipes to cook with children and a girly apron for her future granddaughter.

I don't want to intentionally find out, however if I do see the gender, like I did with my second child (weiner clearly visible, although the tech missed it that go round), I am not telling anyone. Even DH. It will be something I can secretly savor. OK I might tell you people that I know, but not what I know.

not necessarily... if you use the gel food coloring a little goes a LOT further than it would with just food coloring drops.

Just a few toothpicks dipped in a dark blue or red gel should be more than enough to turn a white cake into a beautiful baby blue or pink.

A girl I went to HS with made a 2 layer cake and colored the middle layer of icing blue (since she was having a boy). That way she could bring the cake out, but no one would know until they cut the cake. I thought it was a really cute idea.
