Hi,

I am not a Houstonian, but here on business until October 23rd. I decided to br ing the whole family on this little adventure. What kinds of fun free or cheap things are there to do? We went to the zoo yesterday, as it was cheaper with our reciprocal zoo card and then ate a Cabo (not cheap, but not as expensive as the Aquarium the night before). Cabo was not particularly "kid-friendly", but it was o.k. The kids want to go back to the Aquarium and actually go through the exhibit (we only went there to eat). Is it worth the $$$?

All I can find on-line is the typical "tourist" activities, which are expensive. We are limited to downtown Houston activities, or activities that are on the public transportation system (train and bus).

So, we have 2 adults and 3 kids between 10 months and 10 years old. After Monday, it will be dh and the 3 kids going out for adventures, as I will be working. Any ideas?

Please email me ideas (if you have any) of nice parks/activities, etc. at s a d e a n 3 0 @ y a h o o . c o m (take the spaces out). I don't plan on being on MDC very much.

Thank you!!!!

We did fall into the free museum day they had today, so we saw the Children's Museum, Natural Science museum and a couple of the art museums (cannot remember now which ones). Free Metro between stops...kids loved it It made for a long, but cheap entertainment day today. Please keep ideas coming, as it could be a long week without them...

hmm, hard one- houston is a city where you need a car.... sadly.

playgrounds- should be a lot fairly close
duck pond at the zoo
the Houston Chronicle website www.chron.com usually lists happenings (might have to search a bit, under entertainment) might find something cool there
there's a sculpture garden across from the museum of fine arts
the pool at the hotel? warm enough for it....
at herman park there's a playground with play-in fountains

I'll keep thinking.

I realize this is too late for the original poster, but there's a good book at the library called "147 Fun Things to do in Houston" or something like that. It had a lot of good ideas, but most cost money.

And no kidding about needing a car here! If you live outside the main city, there's virtually no bus service at all. We looked into me riding the bus to work from NW Houston (Jones & 290) to SW Houston (59 @ Hillcroft), and it was a 2-hour trip each way!
