So this is my third pregnancy(not including my miscarriage) but my first UP. I was looking back on my old OB's records and she never put down my fundal heights with my last pregnancy (twins). Right now i'm almost 14 weeks and my fundus is two fingers below my navel. This seems big to me but I'm wondering if it's because of my previous pregnancies. I'm thinking if i'm measuring large I should probably go see mty MW again and get an ultrasound to rule out another multiple pregnancy esp where my first ultrasound showed only one sac and there are just too many risks with identical twins for me to feel safe uping. What do you think? Am I being oversensative or what?

If you've had twins before, then I'm not sure I'd call it oversensitive!

That said, the fundal height you mention does not sound unusual for this stage. Maybe a little higher than average--but not scary-high to me. I should say, not twins-high!

my fundus has measured huge this entire time... at 23 weeks I measured 28, etc. But an ultrasound in week 23 showed the baby is perfect, placenta is perfect, etc. I will say though that I was relieved to see that there was only one baby and he is healthy. So I say do whatever your instincts are telling you to do!

I put little to no stock in fundal measurements b/c there are SO many variables. I'm not even sure why it's used honestly (but maybe that's just my thing). it will change from person to person depending on

the tilt of the uterus
the gestational age (the weeks don't always correspond)
what number baby
if you've had twins
if baby is engaged
if baby is transverse
etc

just too many variables in my eyes to make it any kinda of accurate way of measuring gestational age/growth

Fundal height counts a little more after 20 weeks than before it, and is best measured from pubic bone to fundus since bellybuttons vary. Usually you'll see cm's = weeks give or take a couple. The more kids you've had the more likely to measure ahead though.

With #3, 4 and now 5 . . . my fundus is usually around my belly button at 16 wks (a good 4 wks ahead). I will measure larger for a while but things usually get normal closer to 30 wks. So what you are saying doesn't sound 'abnormal' to me.

Fundal height is yet another one of those things with a wide variation of normal. With my last pregnancy I consistently measured ahead, and was at 45cm at 37 weeks. I gave birth to one perfectly average-sized baby.

that is exactly why I don't even bother measuring! it's so inaccurate for a lot of people. and i have NO idea what purpose is serves. it's like measuring one's height to determine if they have a healthy heart...

I think that things probably are just fine. I had a dream last night about my little boy being born at 11+lbs but he was strong and healthy
. I think you're all right, my womb is certainly lived in have had three kids 20m apart! I'm going to relax and wait until i'm 20 weeks to see where i'm measuring at that point before I do anything like see the mw or get an u/s. Thanks for talking me down
