Hi, all. On my way out, but wanted to see if anyone else had had funky nipple discharge (ie, not just colostrum)--it looks like blood, but maybe stickier? I'm now 34 weeks, but it probably started around 25 weeks. My m/w called a specialist, who said it was nothing to worry about, but then was at a conference this last week and talked to someone who said it's not normal and should get checked out.

At my next m/w appointment, they're going to express some of whatever it is and send it to the lab to look for abnormal cells, a la pap smear.

I'm not freaked out (yet), but wanted to see if other people had had this or heard of it. Better safe and all that.

TIA,
Nancy

It is only not serious if it is not a papilloma. It also goes on to state "If the discharge is bloody or serous, a mammogram is often the first test to be performed. Even when no cancer cells are found in a nipple discharge, it is not possible to rule out breast cancer or other condition such as papilloma."

have someone do a smear of the discharge

if they aren't familiar with how to do it the mw can call the lab and they will tell her what to do or go to a doc

I would do the smear before I went and did something like a mamo in pregnancy
does this discharge come after sex or certain activites or just any time?

it seems to happen most at night or when I'm doing yoga or exercising (judging from when I find it on my bras or PJs). But that could just be when I notice it--it's pretty random, too.

My mw is doing a smear on Tuesday when I see her next.

Thanks!
