Fuzzi Bunz inconsitant fit question

513 Views 7 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  F and L
I know that They have "redone" their diapers several times and changed the sizes. I am trying to make my own homemade fuzzi bunz and want to use their diapers for a pattern. So my question is, if I buy 3 brand new fuzzi bunz in each of the 3 sizes (small, medium, and large) will that be all I need for the life span of a fairly average sized baby and toddler? I just want to make sur eI have the right patterns since I will only have a toddler to test them on. Thanks!

To answer your question, if you buy new you should get consistent sizing, with the exception of the frog print. Those seem to be running large.

However just be aware that FB's, as well as most other diapers, are protected by a patent, and it's illegal to copy them. Especially if you are planning to sell them. So if you do copy them I wouldn't be spreading it around too much.
I know some skinny babes never fit larges. Petite toddler size seems to work better for them.
I got 14 new mediums a few months ago and they are all a bit different in sizes. The bug prints are the biggest, and the rest are variable. The red ones are running small. And the other colors are all over the spectrum! But they all fit ok so I am not worried about it. But I am questioning the quality control of FBs. It is not outstanding. Plus 4 of my tags are coming off. It does not affect the diaper but still annoying NTL. But other than that they have held up great and I still would not be without them!

OK, I am going to disagree here a bit. It is illegal to copy and sell patented diapers, no question. But since the FB patent covers all pocket diapers and you have to send an example of your pocket diaper to Mother of Eden to get a license to sell your pocket diaper, I am pretty sure Tereson is weeding out the obvious copies. Selling unlicensed pockets will lead to legal actions as well, from what I understand.

It is NOT illegal to copy marketed designs of anything for your personal use. I think Ashley made it pretty clear that she wants to make pocket diapers like FBs for her toddler and expected baby. People who sew and craft do this all the time. The Diaper Making forum is full of threads from mamas who want to make diapers like ones they already use and enjoy. No one jumps on these mamas. I suggest that Ashley check out that forum. She will find lots of information.

There are mamas who feel it is unethical to copy diapers. That is a personal choice. I think it is pretty impossible to truly copy a finished product, especially a diaper. It isn't just the shape of the diaper, it is the fabrics, the elastic, the sewing. Heck, it is obvious from this thread that even Fuzzi Bunz has trouble making their own diapers match from sewer to sewer.

I do respect the time and effort diaper wahms put into developing their patterns. There are some absolutely amazing diapers out there. I think it is a bit tactless to talk openly about copying them. But that is about personal feelings, not legal issues.

I've now sold off all of my girls' fuzzis, but I found the pink fuzzis were considerably larger than the others I had in butter yellow and lavender. So perhaps avoid pink too?
