I've never had issue with my gall bladder ever. Last night I woke up to excruciating pain under my right rib cage area that radiated to my back. It almost felt like right flank pain in my kidneys but it was hard to tell. I went potty thinking maybe it was gas or something of the sort but nothing helped. I called my friend/doula this morning and she said it sounded like my gall bladder (she'd had hers out). Called my mw and she said the same thing and told me what foods to stay away from. I had no idea pregnancy could cause your gall bladder to rear its ugly head. Lemme tell you its not fun at all. I'm thinking of trading my body in for a new one after this pregnancy because I seem to be falling apart lol.

DDC crashing but just wanted to say I feel your pain! I had an attack while in labor with my son that was worse than the labor pains I was feeling! WAY WAY worse!!

I find that as soon as I start to feel the pain if I sip hot lemon juice in water can really help. It helps once you sense the symptoms starting and definately stay away from the deep fried greasy foods!

I had mine out in January at 18 weeks pg. It is the worst pain I have ever experienced, mine was really horrible though, worst case my surgeon has seen.

I would stay away from fats and dairy and if it happens again, talk to your HCP about something you can take for the pain and for the inflamtion etc. This far along it isn't as safe to have surgery as it was at 18 weeks for me, but there are some complications from an infected/inflamed gallbladder.

Estrogen helps cause the calcafication of the cholesterol which is what causes the stones. This is why women and pregnant women at that are much more suseptable to attacks.

Anyway, it is NO FUN. I did control my attacks with diet for almost 7 years so don't let my sugery scare you, but this last time it was just too much and it was making me sick and risking my baby.

Yes, there are at least a couple of us in this DDC with gall bladder trouble. I had a horrific attack at 6 weeks pregnant that landed me in the ER/hospital for 3 days. I stabilized, but had the surgery to remove it as soon as I entered the 2nd trimester- end of December.

It was honestly one of the worst pains I've ever experienced. I also felt sick and had bad diarrhea. Recovery from surgery was rough, but I have no regrets.

I hope you can manage your symptoms until it's safe for removal, if you choose that option. I don't wish gall bladder pain on anyone.

I had a lot of gallbladder issues with my last pregnancy. I would be up at night in horrible pain on my right side, and usually it didn't go away until I threw up. I haven't had problems so far with this pregnancy, but I avoid foods that make it worse for me. I guess we'll see as the baby gets bigger!

YES! Apparently the stomach virus that landed me in the hospital last month was also aggravated by my gallbladder. I'm still having a lot of stomach pain and vomiting, usually after dinnertime. My nurse case manager from my health insurance company said that I should definitely talk with my OB about it at my next appointment. Until then, I have phenergan to help me through the vomiting...it doesn't help with the pain though.

I took reglan too, that seemed to help a LITTLE bit, but not enough for avoid surgery.

YES!!! I've told my story here before, but the short version is that I had gall bladder problems with my first dd 8 years ago. Worst. Pain. Ever!!!! I'm so sorry that you are having trouble!!! Thankfully, once we figured out what the pain was it was easy for me to manage through diet. It took 3 full months of having attacks 2 - 4 times a week, each one starting around 10pm and lasting till mid morning for me to get a diagnosis. I happened to have one the night before a check up and the OB I saw that month (rotated between 7) commented that I didn't look very good.
Previous to that, everyone had just kept telling me that I was pregnant and was going to have pain.
:

I think I was diagnosed around 25 weeks and, after that, I literally cut out all fat from my diet and only had 3 more attacks for the rest of the pregnancy (all times I cheated on my diet!!!). I will admit that I went to the ER for every single one of those last three...partly because the attacks started my uterus up and contracting regularly and partly because they would give me morphine which actually helped a little with the pain.
So, be aware that anytime you have abdomen troubles, it can cause an irritable uterus! I had mine out as early as they would take it -- 4 weeks to the day after dd1 was born. LOL

Good luck, Mama! Rest and be careful what you eat! HUGS!!!

I knew we had a few people with gall bladder issues early on but I didn't realize so many mamas were having trouble. I feel a little better then knowing that my body isn't the only one falling apart lol. So far I've warded it off by watching what I eat. I don't usually eat fat and greasy foods so I'm not quite sure what brought it on. I'm hoping its done rearing its ugly head, at least until the little guy is out.
