I'm just barely 5 weeks pregnant, but I'm having killer gas pain today. I'm not sure I'd say I have diahhrea, but I'm bordering on it. Does anyone have any remedies they could suggest? I've got a party to go to tonight and I can not make it feeling like this. Thanks

I am so sorry for you. I've had intermittent gas pain with my pregnancy too. The only thing I try is stool softeners. They don't recommend that pg women take laxatives without advice from a doc but stool softeners are available over the counter and are approved for use while pg. I would also try to take anything that would increase your chances for having a BM; like fiber, water, and prune juice (or plum juice). This is all I really know to do when it hits me. But mostly I don't deal with diahhrea much. I am ALWAYS constipated

Caffeine also stimulates a BM sometimes.

I had bad gas and bloating at that stage of pregnancy, but it went away after about 2 weeks.

Now I find I only get bad gas if I am upright a lot. Spending a lot of time semi-reclined on my laptop seems to make me immune.

I feel your pain. I never had morning sickness, but for most of the first trimester everything I ate seemed to make me blow up like a balloon, with terrible gas pains. I never had constipation or diahrrea, just gas that didn't seem to want to come out.
I've heard that products like gas-X can help, although I just suffered through it without any meds.

If it's any consolation, my gas issues went away at around 12 weeks and haven't returned. I think it was a hormone thing, much like nausea is for some people.

Thanks everyone. Today has been uncomfortable, but hey - I'm pregnant and that's what matters most to me. I'm trying some peppermint tea and it does provide some relief. I've been eating prunes lately to try to keep things moving, but I think maybe they've made things move too much. I don't know. There is just no way to know whats going on in there, but I can not deal with this for 7 more weeks.
